Why Bhagat Singh Should Be Given The Due Place In Indian History

Posted: 24 Dec 2013 05:30 PM PST

Shaheed Bhagat Singh is one of the most recognizable figures from the era of freedom fighters. Countless movies and plays have been made on Bhagat Singh and his story still continues to capture the imagination of the youth of the nation. Along with Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh is the only person who instills in us a strong feeling of patriotism. But sadly, his contribution to the Indian Independence Movement has not been given the kind of appreciation it deserves. Historians have held conflicting views, from some calling him a terrorist while others call him the greatest martyr. It is time our history books give him his due credit and here are the reasons why.

6. He Was Completely Dedicated to the Fight for Freedom

From a very early age, Bhagat Singh showed complete dedication towards the fight for freedom. He read about the Russian Revolution and was inspired by writers such as Lenin, Tolstoy, Karl Marx and Mikhail Bakunin.

He lost faith in religion and became an atheist and dedicated his life to his country. When his parents tried to force him to marry, he ran away from home as he didn’t want any temptations or responsibilities that would hinder his purpose of fighting for the independence of India.

Why Bhagat Singh Should Be Given The Due Place In Indian History

5. He Showed Incredible Resolve at a Very Young Age

The kind of resolve he showed in his fight for freedom is commendable and this alone should earn him a bigger place in Indian history. Sometimes he’s portrayed as a hot blooded youth who went the wrong way in his vanity but that’s not the case at all.

He was an intelligent young man who knew exactly what he was doing and believed in the reasons behind his actions. To show such maturity and understanding at such a young age and also to stand behind one’s ideals is something that should encourage every young man today.

Why Bhagat Singh Should Be Given The Due Place In Indian History

4. He Encouraged the Idea of Total Independence

The Indian National Congress had been negotiating a gradual independence in which they would agree for dominion status for a while and then apply for total freedom but it was because of revolutionaries such as Bhagat Singh and Bose that the Indian psyche started believing that they could get total independence and that too in just a few years.

Why Bhagat Singh Should Be Given The Due Place In Indian History

3. He Became Extremely Popular

His popularity after the murder of Saunders reached an all time high as people were anxious to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. After his arrest and trial in the Assembly Bombing case, he became one of the most popular figures of the Indian independence movement.

His death caused such an impact that people protested against Gandhi for a while. A man of such recognition deserves more than what he’s got in today’s history books.

Why Bhagat Singh Should Be Given The Due Place In Indian History

2. He Accepted Responsibility for His Actions

All of his critics point to his actions and call them acts of terrorism. But the fact is that he took responsibility for his actions and willingly surrendered to the police. He knew that his death would bring the whole nation together and he was eager to give his life for the nation.

His actions might have been violent and wrong on principal but he took them for a reason and didn’t try to run away from the consequences. In fact he took those actions to face those consequences as he knew that he would get a great platform to spread his ideas throughout India.

Why Bhagat Singh Should Be Given The Due Place In Indian History

1. His Death Inspired the Youth and Mobilized the Nation

The trial and hanging of the three, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, was such a botched up affair that it enraged the whole nation. The trial was a mockery in which judgment was announced even without the presence of the accused.

The hanging was done hurriedly in absence of any magistrate and their bodies were cremated in the darkness of the night. This vengeful and unjust act of the British government became the spark that lit a fire through out the nation. All leaders condemned the way their case was handled and the youth of the nation was inspired and mobilized to fight for total independence from the British.

7 Events That Fueled World War I

Posted: 24 Dec 2013 05:30 AM PST

World War I was not a consequence of a single event. Though there were several factors that led to the development of the Great War but above all, it was triggered because of the tensions between the European powers and the crisis of the balance-of-power system which led to the division of Europe into two camps.

While one camp, comprising of Russia, Great Britain and France, together called as Triple Entente endeavored to preserve the flimsy balance between great European powers, the second camp of German Empire, Italy and Austria- Hungry was opposing it.

Mentioned below are specific 7 events that fueled the World War 1, which is one the most devastating military conflicts our history has ever witnessed.

7. Franco-Prussian War

The war that was held between the future German empires that is Prussia and France lasted from 1870 to 1871. This war concluded with a humiliating defeat for France. It not only lost its prime regions of Lorraine and Alsace, but it was also forced to pay a huge indemnity to Prussia. This war eventually led to the development of a very powerful German Empire with a tremendous industrial and military potential which was sufficient enough to further disrupt the European power balance on one hand and widespread resentment and desire for revenge of French on the other hand.

7 Events That Fueled World War I

6. Accession of Wilhelm II to the German Throne

The German foreign policy became more hostile after the accession of Wilhelm II to the German throne in 1888. The newly formed German Emperor immediately dismissed the skillful Otto Von Bismarck as the Chancellor. Not only this, he also declined the renewal of Reinsurance Treaty with Russia that kept fragile peace between Austria-Hungary and Russia and maintained France in isolation. This way Wilhelm II created an alliance in between Russia and France.

7 Events That Fueled World War I

5. Russo-Japanese War

The rivalry between Russo and Japanese over the Korea and Manchuria reached its peak with the resulting Russo-Japanese War in 1904-1905. The war concluded as a major blow for the Russians by the Japanese who lost their entire Pacific and Baltic fleet. This defeat also provoked a very serious political crisis which subsequently led to the Russian Revolution of 1905.

7 Events That Fueled World War I

4. Moroccan Crisis

The Moroccan Crisis had brought the European powers on the verge of war. Germans were the main face behind these crises with the target of creating tensions between the Britain and France alliance. However, it resulted into the opposite. Instead of transforming Britain and getting it close to the Central Powers, these crises further reinforced the Entente Cordiale and resulted into increased hostility of the British towards Germany.

7 Events That Fueled World War I

3. Bosnian Annexation Crisis

It was in 1908 that Austria-Hungary planned to annex Herzegovina and Bosnia, which was the integral part of the Ottoman Empire. This annexation was very bitterly opposed by Serbia, which was very closely related to the province both geographically and ethically. Serbia at that time was supported by the Tsarist government and the crisis persisted into 1909. Russia somehow failed to win over a firm support from Britain or France, whereas Vinna enjoyed full support from Germany and accepted the full annexation of the province. Serbia was then forced to back out resulting into the end of crisis. But these crises permanently damaged the relationships between Russia and Serbia and between Austria-Hungry.

7 Events That Fueled World War I

2. Italo-Turkish War

The Italo-Turkish war that took place between 1911 and 1912 did not disrupt the European peace. But the Turkish defeat exposed the weakness of the Ottoman army and also revealed the disagreement between the European powers about the fate of the decaying Ottoman Empire. The war between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Italy turned out to be an incentive for the Balkan League.

7 Events That Fueled World War I

1. Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria

A group of conspirators belonging to Mlada Bosna (the revolutionary movement) carried out the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian heir presumptive, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife on their visit to Sarajevo on 28th June, 1914. This event triggered the subsequent course of events that directly led to the outbreak of the Great World War I, but it did not cause it.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

Posted: 24 Dec 2013 01:45 AM PST

The Aam Aadmi Party of Arvind Kejriwal has shaken the enormous houses of all the major political parties and woken up corrupt politicians from their slumber. In their panic, both BJP and Congress politicians are throwing everything they can at AAP to malign their image. The politicians of other states are trying to look nonchalant while claiming that AAP can’t repeat their Delhi victory in other states. But the truth is that the people are sick of both BJP and Congress and will vote for any credible alternative and AAP is much more than just a credible alternative. A political revolution is underway and it’s time for people to join and support AAP.

Here are 10 people that I think should join AAP and give it the push it needs to clean the Indian political system once and for all.

10. Ashok Khemka

Dr. Ashok Khemka, who raised his voice against Robert Vadra and had to face the corrupt political system’s wrath, has all the reasons to join AAP and continue his fight against corruption. He would do much more good as a politician for AAP then as an IAS officer who keeps getting transferred from one department to another.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

9. Durga Shakti Nagpal

Another IAS officer who stood up against corruption is Durga Shakti Nagpal. While it is laudable that such IAS officers continue to fight the corruption while staying within the system, I wonder if they’d do more good with a revolutionary political party such as AAP.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

8. N.R. Narayana Murthy

The founder of Infosys, N.R. Narayana Murthy has always been interested in social welfare and overall development of the nation. He is viewed as a man of strong character and honesty. The AAP doesn’t want to be linked with any industrialists, but I think this is one person they can connect with especially if his support is much more than just financial.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

7. Raju Narayan Swamy

Raju Narayan Swamy is an honest IAS officer from Kerala. He too has fought corruption through out his career and it would be great if he could join AAP and concentrate the anti corruption strength of that party.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

6. Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan has not shown any intentions of joining politics but we all were touched by his attempts at social reform through his show Satyamev Jayate. The situation has changed and AAP represents a clean and truly patriotic form of politics that should attract Aamir Khan if he really cares that much about the nation.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

5. R.K. Laxman

R.K. Laxman has drawn the Common Man in his cartoons all his life. Now he can join the common man in his attempt to clean the corrupt political system that Laxman loves to criticize in his cartoons.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

4. Kiran Bedi

Whatever the ideological differences might have been for Kiran Bedi to split from Arvind Kejriwal when he formed AAP, I think it’s time she should resolve these differences and join AAP. Think how much AAP would benefit from such a strong woman who is among one of the most dynamic faces behind modern India.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

3. P. Sainath

P. Sainath is the Rural Affairs Editor for The Hindu. He has spent most of his life writing about the injustices faced by the poor. He has also written about the adverse effects of globalization on the poor. If he ever thought about going into politics, this is the right time to do so with AAP. We need all conscientious men and women like him to join AAP and form a new political powerhouse.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

2. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is one of the most respected Presidents of India and he is someone that the whole nation looks up to. His association with AAP would do a lot of good to this new party. I’m sure he would love to serve his country in this way as well.

10 People I Think Should Join AAP ASAP

1. Sachin Tendulkar

Now that Sachin has retired from cricket, I think he should join politics with AAP. You might think that Sachin is the last person who you would think of as a politician and that’s exactly the reason why he should join AAP. Earlier such people had no way to enter politics and stay clean but AAP has brought an alternative now. Sachin Tendulkar with AAP would quadruple its support overnight and that would be the death toll for Congress and BJP.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

Posted: 23 Dec 2013 09:53 PM PST

Dr. Gregory House of the TV series House MD, played by brilliant British actor Hugh Laurie, is one of the coolest characters to have ever appeared on TV. He’s a total jerk and everyone hates him but for the audience it’s hard not to love him.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

He’s a classic bad good boy character that you just hate to love. No wonder many people wonder how they could be more like Dr. House. He’s just so cool and smart. But as we’ve seen in the series, behind that cool exterior is a miserable and lonely old man grown bitter over the years. Now I don’t know if anyone would want that so here’s a warning: being as cool as Dr. House can lead to loneliness and misery. But despite that if you still insist on being more like him then read on.

Here are 6 tips that will help you be more like Dr. House.

6. Increase Your Knowledge Tremendously

The base of Dr. House’s cool character is his knowledge and intelligence. He’s tremendously intelligent and knows all the diseases there are in modern science. This knowledge helps him to be right all the time which allows him to be as rude as he wants to be.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

Not only does he have knowledge about his profession but he also likes to know everything about everyone.

He proves the saying that knowledge is power and whenever he senses that someone has a secret he just has to find out.

It helps him manipulate people later to his own wishes. So if you want to be like House then increase your knowledge in every way possible. Know everything there is to know about your profession and your friends and colleagues.

5. Buy Some Cool Accessories

An easy way to start being more like House is to buy some really cool stuff. Get a sports bike and a biker jacket and some cool accessory like his cane. You don’t need to go for a cane but get something that will make you look distinct in a crowd.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

Whoever meets House once, never forgets him and a lot of it has got to do with his distinct looks and his cane. The rest of course is due to his strange behavior which we’ll take about later.

4. Become an Awesome Guitar Player but don’t Care Too Much About It

House has some really great guitar chops and he even plays the piano. That is really cool but what is even cooler is that he doesn’t really care about this talent of his.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

He shows off from time to time but in a nonchalant way.

Do the same if you can but know that it will take a lot of practice to get that good. Acting careless will come easy after that.

3. Be Proudly Egoistic

House is a very egoistic and selfish man. He only cares about himself and he’s not ashamed of it.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

He doesn’t believe in the selflessness preached by religions and believes that everyone is selfish deep down.

There might be a lot more truth to this than you think.

Start by not trying to hide your selfish thoughts and be proud of it.

2. Be Rude and Sarcastic as Often as Possible

The most distinctive trait of House is his rudeness and sarcasm. He never behaves politely with anyone. If he has to say something he’ll either be rude or sarcastic about it. He also likes to be deliberately annoying. If you want to be more like him you should try this as well. But be careful as you might get punched a few times.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

House gets away, most of the time, because of his cane.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

If you don’t have a disability, maybe you’d want to pipe down on the rudeness a bit.

1. Always Be Right; Even When You Are Wrong

The most important thing is to be always right. House is almost always right. Even when he’s wrong he won’t admit his mistakes quietly. He’ll be sarcastic about it and point out someone else’s mistakes to hide his own. But that’s only rarely and mostly House is always right.

6 Tips To Be As Smart As Dr. House

If you want to be like Dr. House – learn to always be right and learn it well!
