Getting addicted is a human phenomenon. We all get addicted to one thing or the other. Some are addicted to drugs while others are addicted to alcohol. You can get addicted to eating or watching TV as well. A lot of people are complaining about getting addicted to Facebook so much that it interferes with their work. Many people get addicted to video games as well. There are a lot of types of addictions but there are a few common steps that you can take to beat any type of addiction. Here are the top 10 ways to cure yourself of addiction.

10. Start Small:

The important thing is to start small. You don’t have to be a hero and quit cold turkey. For some people the sudden approach can work but for most people it will only lead to serious withdrawal symptoms until they give in and quit. To avoid this, start small. Reduce the dosage of your addiction. If you smoke 30 cigarettes a day reduce to 20 and then 10 and then maybe even 5 or less.

Start Small

9. Take Help:

If you are trying to cure a serious addiction never feel ashamed to ask for help. It won’t make you weak to ask for help. Even the strongest people can get addicted so don’t feel bad about it. Just ask for help from someone you are close to or from someone who has gone through what you are going through and has been able to beat their addiction.

Take Help

8. Accountability:

Asking for help in terms of advice from an experienced person is smart but you can also ask for help from someone who has no experience in what you are trying to do. You can ask someone to hold you accountable. Make them your accountability buddy. Ask them to never let you go back to your old ways and to call you out if you do so.

Accountability

7. Keep Track:

An important part of achieving success is to keep track of your daily habits. If you are addicted to gaming, keep track of how many hours you play daily. Or track the number of cigarettes you smoke or track your weight. Track anything that helps you stay motivated and write it down in a journal. You can also write down your feelings in the journal as it will help you get deep into the cause of your addiction.

Keep Track

6. Declare Your Goals:

When you are starting out on the journey to cure yourself of an addiction it is a good idea to declare your goals. You can declare them to just one person or to all your friends and family or even to the whole world. It will help you get support from your loved ones and also make you accountable to them as you’ll try to achieve what you’ve declared you’ll achieve.

1. Take Up a Hobby:

When you are quitting an addiction you are creating a hole in your life. Whatever your addiction was, it took up a large part of your life. You spent a large part of the day doing things related to your addiction. So to ease the process you should replace that time with some another activity. Taking up a hobby is a great idea to spend that time, energy and thinking power for some productive reason instead of wasting it on your addiction.
