According to traditional belief, the Pandavas had spent their exile period here and resided in this place for a period of about fourteen years. According to another belief, the holy pool surrounding the complex is composed of Lord Shiva's tears. It was when Goddess Sati died, Lord Shiva was so much disturbed that he cried and his tears lead to the formation of holy ponds at two distinct places.
