6 Blues Bands that Delhi Blues Lovers Should Know About

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 01:30 PM PST

Blues is music of the heart. It comes straight from the heart and holds such emotions that touch the cords of the listener’s heart. So basically listening to a good blues song is like having a heart to heart conversation with the singer. Sadly there aren’t many good pure blues bands in all of India, let alone in Delhi. But here is a list of 6 bands, some from Delhi, some not, that do justice to blues.

6. The Beet Root Blues Band

Beet Root Blues is from Mumbai and plays often at the Haze in Delhi. They play jive blues, soul, swing jazz and rock and roll. They cover a lot of classic blues artists such as Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed etc. and give their own touch to their classic blues compositions. To find out more about them go to visit their official page or like them on Facebook.

5. Saturday Night Blues

The other pure blues band that has been active for some time now is the Saturday Night Blues band from Kolkata. They perform regularly at Someplace Else in Kolkata but can be seen in Delhi from time to time as well. They are a joy for the pure blues aficionado. You can follow regular updates by the band on their Facebook page, and also through it, remain in touch with their performance dates.

4. Soulmate

Soulmate is a band from Shillong and is by far the best blues band in India. It performs all over India, but a lot more in Delhi. You can catch them at Haze a lot and at some other venues as well. The band has performed internationally and brought India to the world scene of Blues, almost singlehandedly. To know more about them check out this Wikipedia.

3. Parikrama

Parikrama is one of the leading bands of the Indian rock revolution. They are not a pure blues band although blues has had a major influence on their sound. Some of their songs are more ‘blues’ than others. They are also probably the most well known band in India. They are on this list, above some of the more classic blues bands because they are originally from Delhi while the rest are not. They believe in free music and you can download all of their songs for free from their website.

2. Big Bang Blues

Big Bang Blues was formed in 2009 in Delhi just for the purpose of going to the original roots of blues. They are primarily a blues band but infuse elements of many other genres such as jazz, funk, rock and rhythm and blues into their sound. They perform at the Haze Blues and Jazz Bar in Vasant Vihar in Delhi. Haze is one of the best places to hear some blues in Delhi and if you want to catch any of these bands, that’s the place to head to.

1. Soul’d Out

Soul’d Out is a relatively unknown blues band from Delhi. They are becoming popular slowly and based on their music’s authenticity, I’m sure they’ll go a long way. The band was formed in 2011 and has 4 members, Rohit, Bhaanu, Abhay and Abhijit. Their sound is primarily blues with elements of a few other genres and they don’t like to define any particular genre for their music. Incidentally there is a Japanese hip hop band with the same name so don’t confuse the two! Check out their Facebook page for latest updates and upcoming performances.

5 Traditional Sarees of Kolkata that Magically Accent a Woman’s Femininity

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 10:00 AM PST

Whenever a group of women sit together to gossip about the traditional sarees they've hoarded up, they mostly talk about the south Indian silks or about the Benarasi silks—but never about the Bengali silk and cotton sarees, which are equally fascinating and unique. However, thanks to designers like Sabyasachi, Bengali sarees did make a comeback in the fashion-arena, but definitely that's not enough. So, let's know the traditional sarees from Kolkata a little better.

5. Taant

Whenever we think of any Bengali saree, we visualize someone wearing crisp cotton, white sari with red border. Well, that traditional saree is none other than our good-old taant sarees — of course; the color palette doesn't stick to the monotonous red and white combo.

Taant - 5 Traditional Sarees of Kolkata that Magically Accent a Woman's Femininity

These saris bear different pattern and motifs with the floral, "buti" and "gamcha" designs dominating the scene. However, nowadays, due to the designers championing tant, geometric and quirky patterns have also become quite famous. Light, bright and transparent, these saris are the most preferable ones in Bengal's hot and humid climate.

Due to their vivid designs, color palettes and lightness, it can be carried off very easily by everyone—its simplicity will definitely bring out the best in you, without you having to go through any discomfort. And, if you want to go ethnic, just choose a "buti" design sari in duotone, with a hint of zari in the border and pallu, and accentuate it with simple gold earrings and a long gold chain—you're sure to set the any traditional party on fire!

If you're in Bengal to purchase Taant, ask for saris from Phulia, Shantipur, Tangail and Dhonekhali—these places make some exquisite taants.

4. Dhakai Jamdani

Originally made in Dhaka before partition, this saree is one of the favorite saris of Bengals in all occasions—be it wedding parties, any Puja and even college farewells!

In other words, there's a jamdani for every one of all ages. Dhakai derives its nomenclature from Dhaka, where it was originally spun, and "jamdani" refers to the typical design that the sari adorns. However, the "korat" design is famous as well, and is more preferred than the former one by the youngsters.

The sari is typically transparent and is woven with cotton and resham-threads. If you want to go for a traditional look yet keep in terms with the modern times, we advise you to go for this sari.

It'll accentuate your curves, falling in the right places; revealing what's needed, and leaving a lot to imagination! Try it with long sleeved, back-less blouses—need we to say anything more?

3. Murshidabad Silk Saris

After pondering over cotton saris, let's turn our eye towards the silk saris of Bengal—yes, for those who are unaware, Bengal, too, make some of the best silk saris in India. The history of silk saris in Murshidabad dates back to the 18th century when the East India Company set up two factories to produce silk.

Murshidabad Silk Saris - 5 Traditional Sarees of Kolkata that Magically Accent a Woman's Femininity

The silk manufactured here is referred to as pure silk since it's totally handloom sans the addition of any other chemical to enhance its shine or durability or anything else. It's also very light and mostly comes in vibrant colors and myriad designs: from floral to stripes to geometrical and quirky pattern.

These silk saris can be worn everywhere—even on daily basis; such is the charisma of these saris. If you're working somewhere where you've sari as the dress-code, this one's apt for you. You needn't team gold jewelries with it, simple chunky stuff or statement pieces just go apt with it. These saris make you look smart; in every inch, a woman of today sans taking away that traditional charm!

2. Baluchari Saris

These saris get their nomenclature from Baluchar village in Murshidabad from where it originated. However, later, due to some geographical mishaps, the industry shifted from the silk-Mecca of east India to Bishnupur in the Bankura district of West Bengal.

Baluchari Saris - 5 Traditional Sarees of Kolkata that Magically Accent a Woman's Femininity

These silk saris, made from pure silk or tussar-silk, are much durable than the other famous silk sarees in India. Unlike the other saris of Bengal, the Baluchari saris stick to a monotonous motif: they depict scenes and chapters from Ramayana and Mahabharata—this makes the sari look much more aristocratic, elegant and exquisite than its rivals.

Baluchari Saris - 5 Traditional Sarees of Kolkata that Magically Accent a Woman's Femininity

If you want to go traditional, just ditch that Benarasi or Kanjivaram for a while, and settle for the Balucharis in beautiful colors—their lightness will ward off all your discomforts while the elaborate but neat design (depicting scenes from the epics) will make you stand apart in the crowd. Just make it a point not to pleat up your pallu!

1. Tussar silks

Although Tussar is produced in numerous areas in India, more than 40% of it is produced in the Malda district of West Bengal. Tussar silk, a more textured one than the "cultured" mulberry silk, aids in the making of numerous types of saris in Bengal. In fact, Baluchari saris are more often made with tussar silks than pure silk. However, apart from Balucharis, simple Tussar silks, in traditional Bengali "buti" and "pata" design is famous among women of all ages.

Tussar silks - 5 Traditional Sarees of Kolkata that Magically Accent a Woman's Femininity

Besides these, the tussar saris are renowned for being a great canvas for the "kantha" stitch as well. Although we would love you to see in every kind of tussar saris, we would recommend the kantha-stitched tussar to you—add a backless, long sleeved blouse and adorn yourself with chunky, oxidized jewelries, and you're ready to grab the limelight in any kind of function. And, if you want to go plainer, then go ahead with a plain tussar silk sari with a contrast blouse and blow-dried hair—you can set any stage on fire without giving up on that coy-traditional feel!

Tibetan Refugees and Indian Citizenship – 7 Considerations

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 07:30 AM PST

By far the highest number of Tibetans in exile is in India, but their status in the country is confusing at best. The debate over Indian citizenship is important because of what it means for the future of the Tibetan refugees and Tibet. Here are a few considerations to think about deeply before this debate can be settled.

7. Being Stateless Leads to Human Trafficking

Another important factor to keep in mind is that being a stateless refugee with unclear status and unclear future prospects, makes people anxious. They try to seek whatever means they can to ensure their safety and security for their future. This has led to many people getting caught in the human trafficking ring and paying huge amounts of money only to get a 6 month tourist visa to the US. At the end of their visa tenure they have no one to guide them as to what to do and they are left to live miserably as an illegal immigrant.

Tibetan Refugees and Indian Citizenship - 7 Considerations

6. The Indian Citizenship Act

The Indian law already grants any Tibetan who was born in India between 1950 and 1987 to apply for Indian citizenship. The CTA has also acknowledged that they do not have the authority to stop any Tibetan from applying for Indian citizenship. If someone applies for Indian citizenship, their children are also applicable for the same. Namgyal Dolkar Lhagyari won a landmark case in the Delhi High Court in 2010 that allowed her to get Indian citizenship and an Indian passport.

Tibetan Refugees and Indian Citizenship - 7 Considerations

5. Benefits of Indian Citizenship for Tibetans

There will be a lot of benefits if Tibetans can get Indian citizenship. They’ll be taken seriously by the politicians as a possible vote bank. They’ll be able to contest elections and become a part of the Indian government, a place from where they can give more support to the Tibetan struggle. They’ll get the civil rights that every Indian citizen gets. They’ll be able to gather for peaceful protests when Chinese dignitaries visit, which they can’t do right now as they don’t have this right as foreigners. And most of all, by owning land and businesses, they’ll be able to secure their future and continue the struggle for as long as needed.

Tibetan Refugees and Indian Citizenship - 7 Considerations

4. Tibetans with Citizenship of Western Countries

It’s not like those who went to US and other western countries and got the citizenship of those countries, have stopped being Tibetan or stopped supporting the Tibetan cause. In fact their dual citizenship allows them to fight more strongly for Tibetan independence from Chinese occupation. If citizenship is allowed for western countries then why not for India?

Tibetan Refugees and Indian Citizenship - 7 Considerations

3. The Situation in Nepal is a Warning

Something similar has already happened in Nepal and that could happen in India too. Once HH Dalai Lama is no more in his present life, the stance of the Indian government could change. Especially considering the pressure Chinese government has been applying on India. The highest number of Tibetan refugees are in India and this needs to be taken into account while considering pros and cons of Indian citizenship.

Tibetan Refugees and Indian Citizenship - 7 Considerations

2. Tibetans in India are Foreigners not Refugees

When HH Dalai Lama came to India, his strong relationship with then Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, helped to attain a place for the thousands of refugees who followed him into India. The Indian government has been very generous to the Tibetans but technically, it has never recognized them as refugees. Dalai Lama was called an ‘honored guest’ by Jawaharlal Nehru and today Tibetans are considered as foreigners not as refugees. This means that if the Indian government’s stance changes for the worse, it could seriously damage the Tibetan struggle.

Tibetan Refugees and Indian Citizenship - 7 Considerations

1. Tibetan Patriotism and Support for Tibetans Still in Tibet

The Tibetan Government in Exile and the Central Tibetan Administration have historically held the view that if Tibetans took Indian citizenship, it would demoralize the Tibetans that were still in Tibet. A sense of patriotism has stopped Tibetans from trying to get Indian citizenship in the past, but slowly this sentiment is changing and many Tibetans don’t see the act of getting an Indian passport as antipatriotic. In fact it might be necessary to ensure the survival of the Tibetan struggle against the Chinese occupation.

When A Renowned Brand Uses Prank Websites For Revolutionary Advertisement

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 06:13 AM PST

Old Spice is not old. On the contrary it is younger than any creative mind on earth could possibly be. Seriously man! The ad agency that came up with this out-of-the-world promotional idea should be handed all the advertisement business of the world. How on earth do you advertise your product in this fast changing viral video world? You use viralism (that's what I would call it) to the capacity. Old Spice guys fine-tuned prank websites and mixed it with the highest video quality available on the internet to produce masterpieces in online advertisement. What they did was simply create a few prank websites – sites you usually love to visit – and then pleasantly surprise you with their commercial.

Old SPice

When you click on any of the below mentioned links, you are directed to a website purportedly related to it. But in a few seconds, you hear an alarm and then the page simply drops down. What comes next is another uniqueness of the ad – a full page HD video of the Old Spice commercial you are originally meant to see.

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

Posted:

While the battle between love and arranged marriage seems to be going on forever, youngsters more or less tend to sway in the direction of love marriages due to reasons uncountable. However, let's steer clear of this fight and, for a change, look at some pros (yes, "pros", you hear it right!) of arranged marriages.

15. They say Arranged Marriage Ensures Financial Security

Well, in India, if you're marrying a guy whose career hasn't yet shaped up properly, then you're marrying a dud, and according to the "relatives", you might just end up in a divorce sooner or later. Well, may be divorce is a too far-fetched thought, but then, financial stability does matter, and we know, no matter what happens, our parents are never going to choose someone as their son-in-law who is anything less than "perfect", at least in their eyes!

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

14. Bride and Groom from Similar Backgrounds Make More Stable Couples

In arranged marriages, more than often we find the groom and bride coming from a similar background, so there are lesser and lesser chances of having any family related troubles or even bloodshed like they show in Hindi films. Well, if you think behave like Ayesha Takia's character in "Socha Na Tha", then it's a whole new story altogether!

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

13. Longer Years of Matrimonial Bliss

Arrange or love, marriages are but battlefields between two people, so it's much better to go for the former where you'll at least have things to talk about and know about each other. In this way, you will be spared more years of matrimonial "bliss"!

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

12. Spare yourself the tension, let your Parents Choose Your Partner

Well, this might sound preposterous in this "serious" listicle, but choosing a partner for yourself means making a lot of decisions and undergoing a lot of tensions which would in turn result in wrinkles! Oh my God, did we just mention WRINKLES?!

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

11. Did You Know Divorce Rate The World Over Is Higher For Love Marriages?

According to researches around the world, divorce cases are maximum in case of love marriages than arranged marriages. You might just term it as a mere "figure" but, nevertheless, these figures speak out a lot and are worth acknowledging before reaching out to any conclusions.

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

10. Love Can Keep You Blind Till Marriage; Arrange Marriage Is A Better Gamble

If the groomsmen demand some sort of dowry or any such "demands", you can simply call off the marriage and inform the police (sadly, even "educated" people give in to these demands), but such is seldom possible in love marriages where things sometimes just get beyond anyone to handle. After all, people do become blind in love!

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

9. Arrange Marriages Now Allowing Longer Courtship

Are you someone who prefers love marriages simply because it provides you with a scope to "know" your partner? Well, for your information, arranged marriages are nowadays more like arranged-love marriages where, unlike earlier times, you not only get to meet your partner but also get to spend considerable time with him before making the decision.

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

8. Arrange Marriages Check Compatibility With The Entire Family

One of the best parts of arranged marriage is that it provides you with a scope to get along your in-laws better than love marriages (well, we are not saying that love marriages do not give you such a scope, but it's definitely rare). Likewise, you can share all your thoughts about post-marriage issues (such as, work schedules, lifestyle, likes and dislikes) prior to your marriage and, likewise, prevent any dilemma cropped from therein at a later stage.

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

7. There's Lots You Can Discover Post Marriage

If you're really a romantic person, then you should go for arranged marriages—umm….no, we haven't gone mad! According to the "experts", there's much excitement in post-marriage romance and budding love, and because of the commitment factor, it's something totally different from the pre-marriage romance! Well, is it something difficult to visualize—then think about the Esha-Fardeen relationship in "Just Married".

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

6. Likelihood of Fairytale Wedding much Higher in Arranged Marriages

Arrange Marriages more often calls for an elaborate, fairy-tale weddings than love marriages—reason? Well, what other than the fact that your husband has been chosen from 1000s by your parents. What? What's your benefit? It's simple, you can, at least for one whole week, be treated like a princess!

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

5. Arrange Marriages Come With No Prior Dominance over the Other

If marriage is a battleground, then, in arrange marriages, both the husband and the wife start from the same level since no one has a prior record of dominance over the other. However, things are not as straight as they look virtually in love marriages.

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

4. Looks and Charm Cannot Deceive One in an Arranged Marriage

Sometimes, swayed by looks and charm, you tend to make wrong decisions in love marriages, but the prospective groom has to go through a lot of hurdles before ending up before the sacred fire. The same goes for the bride as well. So, at least in pen and paper, it's much better than their counterpart.

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

3. Better Support for In-Laws in an Arranged Marriage

Now, let's talk about some serious stuff. In arranged marriages, you're more in favor of getting all the love and support of your extended family in times of crisis (albeit, if you maintain a healthy rapport with your in-laws and are capable to giving back that love in form of respect!).

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

2. You will definitely Get a New Wardrobe In Arranged Marriage

If you love to shop and shop till you drop, then arrange marriages is your chance to get a whole new wardrobe! Well, just emotionally blackmail your parents and see the results!

15 Reasons Why You May Really Consider an Arranged Marriage

1. You Always Have Someone Else To Blame If Things Go Wrong

Marriages, arranged or not, are but suicides, so it's better to get along with arranged marriages—at least, you can later blame your parents for any kind of detestable issues (we sincerely hope there aren't—but we also remember it's "marriages" we're talking about!)!

Was social media responsible for Sunanda Pushkar’s tragic death?

Posted: 23 Jan 2014 01:30 AM PST

A few days prior to the tragic death of Sunanda Pushkar, an ugly drama unfolded itself on social media Twitter. Soon enough people were tagging and calling on their friends to check out the dirty linen of the Union Minister of India being washed in public. Putting Bollywood love triangles to shame, this drama took place at international level, crossing the LOC. Today, the nation stands shocked at the untimely demise of a fiery entrepreneur.  Are the people who giggled and had fun with the tweets that should not have been in public feeling guilty of being responsible for her death in some way? What was the role played by social media in the tragic death of a successful woman? Though it is not important whether social media was involved or not but only poignant that a beautiful life is lost, here are 5 points that justify the role of it in her death.

Political Twist

Sunanda Pushkar first came into limelight when Narendra Modi referred to her as "Shashi Tharoor's 50-crore-rupee girlfriend”. She was discussed and embarrassed for political reasons in the media. In that drama her fault was of being in love with a politician. No one wanted to hear or know how she felt being called the 50 crore girlfriend; the name stuck. Since those days, people have followed her marriage to the Union Minister with great interest. No wonder, when the social media made public what by decorum should have been personal and private, the whole nation enjoyed and had fun with the tweets.

Was social media responsible for Sunanda Pushkar's tragic death?

Who needs a private eye?

There were times when you had to hire a private eye to investigate suspicious movements about your spouse, but not anymore. Today, all you have to do is to hack into their social media account to find out all about their secret affairs with proof. Was the truth of what she found too much for her to handle emotionally? Was she better off not knowing her husband's personal tweets? Was it too sudden and shocking for Sunanda to read the messages Tarar sent to her husband? Knowledge is great and human's quest for truth is unquenchable, but there are times when we are better off not knowing the truth. The incident that followed proves the point. Moreover, when we read the text messages without looking the person and hearing their voice, our own interpretation plays a great role.

Was social media responsible for Sunanda Pushkar's tragic death?

The Emotional Turmoil

By what Sunanda posted on twitter and what we hear about her last phone call, it is anyone's guess that she was in a great emotional turmoil. Under normal conditions Sunanda, who had done business with flair at international level, would not go public attacking Tarar of being an ISI agent, who was stalking her husband. Shashi Tharoor claimed his account had been hacked, which was refuted by his wife. She also talked about divorce, before she and her husband together gave a statement stating they are happily married and there’s no trouble in their marriage. All this happened on twitter, with everyone watching them intently.

Was social media responsible for Sunanda Pushkar's tragic death?

Effects of Social Media

Prior to the advent of social media, Sunanda Pushkar would have possibly lived her life quietly. She was not a star or sportsperson sought out by media for gossips. Internet sites like Facebook and Twitters have catapulted almost anyone to the status of being celebrities. People want to follow and read their pages and messages; especially if it involves something controversial and personal. Unfortunately, these very people missed to see the pain and suffering of a wife, as they made fun of her spellings and allegations. Even her close friends betrayed her and called her a foolish woman who was ruining things for herself and her family. There was no compassion or understanding for her turmoil from the people who were having blast with her blunder. These are the side-effects of being a celebrity on social network.

Was social media responsible for Sunanda Pushkar's tragic death?

Fear of Consequences

We cannot be sure who was afraid, but there are clues that show fear of consequences that would follow the twitter drama. Sunanda was a fiery woman who was never known to suppress her laughter nor mince her words. It was visible with the posts she put on twitter and statements she gave to media that she was troubled at the time. But was she prepared to face the consequences once she calmed down? Was she ridden by guilt that she went public with the bizarre tweets which should have first been discussed in private? Mehr Tarar has reportedly threatened to file a defamation case against Sunanda Tharoor. Were the people involved scared of her revealing more serious truth? Was there more than just mistrust and alleged stalking of another woman? Now that Sunanda is no more, we may never know the truth.

Kumar Vishwas Is The 26th Best Poet World Has Ever Seen. Holy S#%^T

Posted: 22 Jan 2014 11:28 PM PST

Since time immemorial, poetry has been considered as the most superior form of art. And, more than often, it is poetry that is widely read across the globe—much more than the other forms of literature. However, due to the upsurge of "intellectuals" across the globe, sometimes, this high genre, too, is but made a fool of in the world arena. For example, in a recent list at a literature blog, Kumar Vishwas was ranked 26th among the top 500 poets ever. Yes, you hear me right—with seven poems in his belt, he is supposed to be one of the foremost poets ever—a legend! Let's have a look—

8. Kumar Vishwas, the great

As a student of literature, we've been taught of one thing—appreciation of literature is totally subjective: what I find great might just fail you. Having said that, there's no denying that good poetry is always considered a piece of art—you might not like a part or two, but you can't deny their exclusivity. Coming back to the list, the first 50 poets do feature Kumar Vishwas but no T.S. Eliot or Charles Baudelaire—the stalwarts of Modernist poems. Modernist poems, capturing stark realities, are no poems, is it?

7. Rumi, the best love poet?—nah!

A student of literature or not, every Indian seems to be acquainted with the works of Rumi, Ghalib and Kabir. In fact, according to intellectuals around the globe, Rumi remains one of the best love poets who have ever lived. Well, this might be just an apt time to change this notion and take Kumar Vishwas' name ahead of even Rumi—like they have done in this list:

kumar-vishwas

6. Vishwas ahead of Faiz, Ali and Azmi

Before delving deep into the world arena, let's consider some of the best poets in the Indian subcontinent. This list which contains Kumar Vishwas' name among the top 30 poets is bereft of names of great writers like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Agha Shahid Ali, Gulzar, Harivansh Rai Bacchan and even Kaifi Azmi who are considered as great stars in the literature of the Indian subcontinent. There might be two reasons behind it—firstly, Mr./Miss listmaker hasn't read and compared their poems (comparing is something which all students of literature must do); secondly we're too inferior to understand the high art in Kumar Vishwas' poems. Well, seeing the confidence with which the list has been put up, the second reason might just be it!

5. Vishwas, a "7-poems" wonder?

Okay, we know that any poet shouldn't be judged by the number of poems he or she has written, but in order to understand his/her writing style, caliber and genre, we must read at least a dozen of poems? Mr./Miss listmaker is indeed a superior being in terms of knowledge and intellect, otherwise how could Kumar Vishwas be scaled notches above Larkin, Donne and Rilke.

4. Tactless Comparison

The list traces poets across a vast period of time—from the age of Shakespeare to, well, Kumar Vishwas. Poetry, as it is genuinely thought, doesn't only have to be romantic—it traces tragedy, apathy and disillusionment as well, among many. So, it's just useless to forge a comparison between William Wordsworth and Charles Baudelaire—or, for that matter, Kumar Vishwas and Rabindra Nath Tagore!

3. The AAP factor

It is a bit conspicuous but don't you think we're suddenly seeing Kumar Vishwas' poems everywhere, all of a sudden? Till yesterday, he was just another person writing, well, good poems but suddenly he's being counted among the top 30 world's best poets ever—ah! The perks of being a ruling politician!

2. If You're a Politician—You're Great!

Politics of India has always shaped and reshaped the literary arena of the country—we've seen innumerable politicians taking on to writing and painting, and even excelling at that. Our dear ol' Mamata Banerjee is a case in point. However, Kumar Vishwas seems to have surpassed even the "tigress" of Bengal by claiming a position atop Kaifi Azmi, Gulzar, Joy Goswami (the great Bengali poet; lesser known, ofcourse) and even, William Blake!

1. Genuine Request

We recommend you to understand the art in poetry first, make a judgment after reading innumerable poems and poets—and then jump headlong into making a list. Poetry is an art and not a game to be played by anyone and everyone.
