9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

Posted: 09 Jan 2014 01:30 PM PST

No matter how much we deny this now and no matter how much we are different from each other, we all did have our share of college crushes! With college crushes, there are some peculiarities attached—no matter how much the girl likes the guy, she won't ever show it; she won't ever accept and propose to him; somehow, the gender normative roles gets imbibed upon a strict feminist too! Well, all these create a very mushy ground for the guy who doesn't know what to do, how to do and stuff. Let's look at some ways by which a guy can propose to his college dream girl.

9. Make use of Valentine's Day:

Whether your girl is a nerd or fun-loving or simple or loud, she is definitely a believer in Valentine's Day. The idea may appear to be a creepy one, but this actually works. Just say you love her on the V-day with a red rose or chocolates or a teddy bear—and you won't get a denial unless you're girl is already hooked!

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

8. Don't Overdo Anything:

Yes, we know it is Valentine's Day and you're so eager to propose to your lady love that you want to spend a month's pocket money on her. Well, if she's a bimbo then she's going to love all the attention but if she's really good and understands and worth all the attention, then she's never going to say a "yes". So, the trick is to understand the lady and do everything accordingly.

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

7. Keep Her Bff into Confidence:

Okay, you might hate to admit, a girl always give more importance to her Best friend than to her boy friend. So, the best way to know about her or even to approach her is by being friends with her BFF first. In this way, you not only get to know about her but your position too gets cleared since she won't ever question her BFF's choice of friends!

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

6. Ask her Out on a Casual Date First:

Don't just jump to some conclusion and propose to her. Be calm and relax, and approach step by step. First step is to be pally with her and ask her out on a date. This will help in breaking the ice and will make both of you comfortable. One disclaimer: don't forget to mention a "casual" date.

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

5. Don't Let Her Pay the Bills:

Girls would always want to pay the bills, but remember, it's just their coyness and courtesy that prompts them to do so. Don't ever go by the flow and let her pay the bills. Well, on the other hand, you may do so—if you're dissatisfied with the girl or genuinely think she's a wrong choice! It might sound funny, but it works!

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

4. Come Closer by Some Valid Excuse:

By "closer" we don't mean physical intimacy but close enough to be in the league of her friends. If you're not friends with your crush, make the excuse of some missing study notes (old, but gold) and spend some extra time with her sans any disturbances. But don't do this too regularly; it might hamper your relationship as well as your career!

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

3. Go Out on Gang Outings:

We know you want to spend some time exclusively with her, but the first step is to go out with the gang, because you'll act sane only when in comfortable company. For gang outings, movies are always a safe but great option—but don't let any leaves unturned to get the seat next to her—those exchange of pop-corns and chips always work wonders!

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

2. Prom Night Partner:

If there's a prom night, make sure you have her as your partner. Although a western concept, almost all colleges have prom nights and dances held annually. Make sure you get enough of it.

9 Ways To Propose Your College Dream Girl

1. Ring proposal:

Well, every girl wants to be proposed with a ring, in some private but intimate party. If you're sure of proposing to her, then go ahead—buy a ring, go down your knees and propose to her at the peak hour of a party. Or, better, at bang-on 12 o’clock, if it's a New Year's Party!

6. Tulsi:

The most common example of a sacred plant in Hinduism is the Tulsi. It is a form of Basil and is sometimes called the Holy Basil. The one in Kintoor is believed to be 1000 to 5000 years old, which is possible for a baobab tree. It is related to Mahabharata as it is said to have been brought from heaven by either Arjun or Krishna and is said to be growing out of Kunti’s ashes. 6 Architectural Wonders In India That’ll Blow Your Mind Away

Posted: 09 Jan 2014 07:30 AM PST

Long before modern science helped countries around the world come up with amazing architectural wonders; India had come up with some structures that could blow one's mind away. The architectural wonders of India include temples, mosques, monolith statues, forts, palaces, universities, and tombs. Tourists have marveled at the beauty of wonders like the Qutub Minar, Howrah Bridge, Victora Terminus, Charminar, Sanchi Stupa, The Golden Temple and much more architectural astonishment in India. It is very difficult to pick just 6 architectural wonders from the list of 100s equally magnanimous creations, but here is a feeble effort to do so. The list shows the diversity and wide range of architectural wonders that are pride of India.

6. Hampi

Today, the ruins of Hampi can captivate you to no end. You can only imagine what an amazing sight the city would have been in its heydays. The UNESCO world heritage site was the former capital of Vijayanagar Empire.  No words can describe or explain the spectacular Vittala Temple and its remarkable architecture. Among the wonders are the musical pillars carved out of stone which emit musical notes when tapped. The British in their curiosity opened two pillars only to find them hollow from inside. The Stone Chariot is another wonder of Hampi which charms visitors even when it lies in ruins. 6 Architectural Wonders In India That'll Blow Your Mind Away

There is no doubt that the iron-smiths of India were way ahead of their counterparts. We love our gadgets; perhaps more than we love our loved ones – ma, papa, kid, sis, buddy, bro et al. It appears as if they do not exist in our world of keystrokes. Doesn't that make us lonely souls? Isn't that frightening – the non-realization of our loneliness? Isn't it time to raise our heads from the brightly lit screens and discover true happiness? It is. It definitely is! This video uploaded on YouTube channel daytodisconnect in 2011 continues to hold relevance in 2014; maybe more than then. Launched as a worldwide movement, spearheaded by Rabbi Zechariah Wallerstein of Ohr Naava, 'A Day to Disconnect' took place on October 2, 2011. Thousands voluntarily unplugged their gadgets for some time and found that they were living an existence of a sociopath. It's time to disconnect from the virtual and connect to the real. Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

Posted: 09 Jan 2014 04:30 AM PST

Alexander the Great of Macedonia wanted to conquer the whole world and in his campaign he defeated Syria, Egypt, Persia and came all the way to India. In India he defeated a few small tribes, but then he had to face the first mighty king of India in Porus. He fought a hard battle and eventually defeated Porus, but he did not go much further into India. His campaign ended near the river Indus which he made the eastern edge of his empire and returned home. There are many reasons and theories about why he did not pursue his conquest into India. Here are the main reasons why he decided to call it quits after fighting with Porus.

1. His Army was Tired of Fighting:

Imagine being in the army of Alexander the Great. He was a great warrior and military tactician and you win many great wars and keep moving forward to fight more wars. How long can you go on? Eventually you’ll be tired of all the fighting and blood and death. That’s exactly how his army felt. They just refused to go on fighting and demanded to go back home.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

2. His Troops Resented Him for Mixing with His Defeated Enemies:

His troops had also started to resent him for being kind to the defeated people and mixing with them. He married Roxanna in Persia and started dressing like them. When someone told him not to do so, he had them killed. Alexander wanted to mix all the people in his conquered kingdom to create unity but the Greeks did not like this.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

3. The Battle with Porus was Terrifying:

The battle with Porus at the edge of the river Jhelum was terrifying to say the least. This was the first time the Greeks had fought against an army of elephants. The battle cries of the elephants scared the Greek horses. Porus and his army fought valiantly and although Alexander won, he lost many men and horses. Such a hard battle was the tipping point for his army who were already tired and dissatisfied.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

4. The Stories of Other Indian Empires with Large Armies Scared his Army:

When they heard the stories of the great empires of India at the River Ganges and further inland, they were scared of fighting more vicious battles. They realized that the other kings would also have large and ferocious armies and they didn’t want to face them.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

5. His Army was Sick of the Indian Hot Weather and Torrential Rains:

On top of everything they were not used to the hot tropical climate of India. They had to march and fight under the hot sun and torrential monsoon rains. This was another factor that sapped the morale of the Greek army.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

6. His Army was Homesick:

Also his army was probably very homesick. They had been away from their homes for more than a decade. After a while, even winning isn’t enough to keep someone away from their home for so long.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

7. His Favorite Horse Died:

The Greeks were very superstitious and believed in omens. When his favorite horse, Bucephalus died in the battle with Porus, it is possible that Alexander took it as an omen that his conquest was over.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

8. He was probably injured:

There are also theories about him getting severely injured in the battle with Porus. Other accounts say that he got injured in a later small campaign on his way back home down the Indus River in Multan. A serious injury could have been responsible for his decision to turn back.

Why Alexander the Great Packed His Bags and Left Bharat Bhoomi

9. The Greeks Thought the World Ended Just a Few Kilometers Ahead of Where They Were:

Another reason could have been the flawed maps of the world that the Greeks had at that time. According to those maps they were just a 1000 km away from the edge of the world. That could have made the Greeks feel that they had already conquered the whole world.

Zoom in with Google Earth to this memorial in one of the remotest locations on earth

Posted: 09 Jan 2014 03:00 AM PST

Around 25 years ago UTA Flight 772 operating from Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo to Paris CDG airport in France crashed in Niger in a terror attack. Six Libyans were ultimately convicted. They used a suitcase bomb to blow up the plane, which resulted in the deaths of all 155 passengers and 15 crew members. Eighteen years later, families of the victims gathered at the crash site to build a memorial. Due to the remoteness of the crash location in the Tenere region, pieces of the wreckage could still be found at the site.

The memorial was created by Les Familles de l'Attentat du DC-10 d'UTA, an association of the victims' families along with the help of local inhabitants. It was built mostly by hand using dark stones fetched from a place 70 kms away to create a 200-foot diameter circle that is visible using satellite picture available through Google Earth. The memorial was built over the course of two months in May and June of 2007. The memorial is anchored by the starboard wing of the aircraft which was trucked to the site from 10 miles away. Workers had to dig up the wing and empty it of sand. It has been built in such a way that it can be seen as a logo from the sky.

Big Time Geeks Who Revered Bhagavad Gita; Song Of The God

Posted: 08 Jan 2014 10:45 PM PST

Bhagavad Gita is one of the most important spiritual texts in the world. It is said that the pith of Hinduism and the Vedas and Upanishads is in the Gita. It has influenced Hinduism and many great men in India such as Sri Aurobindo, Adi Shankracharya, Mahatma Gandhi, Vivekananda, etc. But did you know that Gita has had a lasting effect on many international personalities as well. Even rational atheists could see the power of the meaning of Gita. The intellectual geeky kinds, all over the world, have found Gita to be one of the most profound books ever. Here are nine non-Indian geeks who were inspired by the Gita.

1. Aldous Huxley:

Aldous Huxley was an English writer who wrote 'Brave New World'. He was influenced heavily by the Bhagavad Gita. He said that Gita is “one of the most clear and comprehensive summaries of perennial philosophy ever revealed; hence its enduring value is subject not only to India but to all of humanity.” And that Gita was “the most systematic statement of spiritual evolution of endowing value to mankind.”

5. Carl Jung:

Carl Jung was one of the pioneering psychiatrists of the world. He introduced the idea of archetypes and collective unconscious. He said, “The idea that man is like unto an inverted tree seems to have been current in by gone ages. The link with Vedic conceptions is provided by Plato in his Timaeus in which it states…” behold we are not an earthly but a heavenly plant.” He visited India and was highly influenced by Hinduism.
