8 Best Songs To Listen While Solving Math Problems Posted: 16 Aug 2013 08:39 AM PDT It has been scientifically proven that listening to music while solving math problems is a good way to improve results. Music is said to help in activating certain areas of the brain that are used in solving math problems. It also helps in concentrating and focusing by working as an active filter of outside noise. The thinking goes that a constant noise is less distracting than alternating noise such as car horns etc. Music creates an audio barrier that cancels out any outside noise. Once you start concentrating on a math problem and there’s a song playing the background it get easy to maintain focus and concentration. From personal experience I’ve found that certain songs work better than others. Usually great songs work great in helping to concentrate. Here are 8 best songs to listen while solving math problems. 8. Land, Patty Smith:Land from the album Horses by Patty Smith is a great song to do math problems do. It’s a nice jam and Patty Smith sings these really poetic lyrics over the song. The song keeps getting louder and softer but it doesn’t break the concentration. It is the continuous lyrics being spoken that really help in concentrating. Of course you have to make sure that you are concentrating on the problem and not on the lyrics. It is also a fairly long song which creates a long period of concentration. 7. Baba O’Riley, The Who:Baba O’Riley by The Who is also a three chord jam that works as a great concentration song. It also helps in pumping me up as I imagine being part of the ‘teenage wasteland’. A great song in itself and also as a song to do math problems to. 6. High Hopes, Pink Floyd:Pink Floyd is the best band to do math problems to. Their songs are long and there are a lot of instrumental parts with great guitar solos. This really helps me in concentrating on math problems. High Hopes from the album The Division Bell is one of the best songs to study to. It goes on in the background as a drone jam while you can solve one problem after the other. 5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pink Floyd:Another great Pink Floyd song is Shine on You Crazy Diamond. For one thing it’s almost half an hour long. There are very less lyrics in it. And the instrumental part is a slow jam. It’s a great song to put on and concentrate on a big problem that’s been bothering you. I also try to imagine being the ‘crazy diamond’ who solves the especially difficult math problem. 4. Hurricane, Bob Dylan:Another great song to do math problems to is Hurricane by Bob Dylan. It’s a legendary blues jam about racism in America but it works well as a song to concentrate to as well. Dylan’s raspy voice drones on in the background while you can concentrate on the math problem. It also helps me in picking up my pace and doing more problems. 3. Lose Yourself, Eminem:Hip hop songs are pretty good to concentrate to because they usually have a constant beat and melody going on in the background and the lyrics are hard to understand so they don’t distract you. Lose Yourself by Eminem from the OST of 8 Mile Road is a great song. It helps in pumping me up whenever I’m low. It works great as workout music. And it also works great to do math problems. 2. Stairway To Heaven, Led Zeppelin:Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin is a legendary song that everyone has heard many times. But if you’ve never tried solving math problems to it then you’ll be surprised at how well it works. Plant’s high pitched vocals can sometimes be a little distracting but it’s Jimmy Page’s melodic guitar playing that is really soothing and calming. 1. Another Brick In The Wall, Pink Floyd:Another Pink Floyd song has to be in this list because of its ironical lyrics. This is for the times when you don’t feel like working on math problems but you still have to do it. Solve the problems and also sing along this ultimate rebel anthem and sing aloud the part of ‘we don’t need no education’. It’s a good song to take away some of the frustration of having to do so many math problems! The post 8 Best Songs To Listen While Solving Math Problems appeared first on TopYaps. |
