Willem and Elaine de Kooning: Willem and Elaine de Kooning were both part of the New York School of Abstract expressionism or Action painting. They met in 1938 and fell in love. They got married in 1943 and remained together till Elaine’s death in 1989. Willem de Kooning died in 1997. Together they were the most influential couple in the Abstract art world during their time. 7. Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner: Jackson Pollock was an American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was an alcoholic and had a volatile personality. Lee Krasner, an abstract painter herself, was able to handle Pollock’s reclusive personality and they fell in love. They remained together till Pollock’s fatal car crash. Lee died in 1984 as the widow of Pollock and an influential painter. 3. Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg: Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg were two male artists in love who had to keep their affair secret because they were much ahead of their time. The details of their love came out much later. Robert died due to heart failure in 2008 and Johns continues to paint and produce graphic art. Steve McNair: Steve McNair was an American Football quarterback who played for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL. He was known as Air McNair and led the Titans to four playoffs. In 2009 he was shot by his mistress Sahel Kazemi while he was sleeping and later she shot herself too. 8. Sean Taylor: Sean Taylor was another American Football player who played for the Washington Redskins in the NFL for four seasons. He died in 2007 when he was shot by intruders in his home in Miami. His death was met with outrage and national sympathy as he was a fan favorite. 7. Dino Bravo: Dino Bravo, born as Adolfo Bresciano was a Canadian professional wrestler. He had a decent career with the WWE and proclaimed himself to be Canada’s strongest man. He was shot 17 times in his home in Quebec on March 10, 1993 due to the alleged connections with the cigarette smuggling cartel in Canada. 6. Corrie Sanders: Corrie Sanders was a professional boxer from South Africa. But he never got the chance to do that when was shot dead during an altercation. ESPN made a documentary on his life titled, Benji. 3. Oscar Bonavena: Oscar Natalio “Ringo” Bonavena was a heavyweight professional boxer from Argentina. He had great success in both Argentina and later in the United States. He is most famous for his very close fights with Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. He was nicknamed Ringo because of his beatles hairstyle. In 1976, he had an affair with the wife of a brothel owner which led to the events of his death. He was shot outside the Mustang Ranch brothel by the ranch owner’s bodyguard. 2. Henri Pelissier: Henri Pelissier was a French cyclist who won the 1923 Tour de France. He was known for his altercations with other riders on the Tour and the Tour founder, Henri Desgrange. He was instrumental in protesting against the harsh conditions that the riders had to face during the Tour. His wife committed suicide and later he was shot in self defence with the same gun by his lover who he was trying to kill with a knife. 1. Andres Escobar: Andres Escobar was a Colombian football player who was known as the “Gentleman of Football” for his good behavior. During the 1994 FIFA world cup he ended up scoring an own goal that led to Colombia’s loss against the United States. This event caused his death when he was shot a few days later in Medellin, El Poblado in the parking lot of a nightclub when three men approached him and shot him 6 times shouting “goal” with each shot.
