Top 10 Famous Court Cases In India Posted: 08 Oct 2013 08:00 AM PDT India has witnessed a number of interesting court cases, all different from each other; yet have one or another thing in common. The cases mentioned in this article bring forth and highlight the drawbacks and loopholes in our system or maybe, in our constitution. From a case of identity to that of corruption, you will explore all kinds of court cases which are interesting and thought provoking too…. 10. Chandrashekhar Prasad Murder Case:Prasad was seen as a youth icon when he started his career in politics with the Communist Part of India Liberation. He was the student leader of student union of Jawaharlal Nehru University. He was passionate to change the politics scenario in India. But Prasad was shot dead on 31st March, 1997, in Siwan district of Bihar, when he was addressing a rally held by his party. Three sharpshooters, employed by strong politicians, were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment after 15-year-long case hearing. 9. INA Trials:Indian National Army was formed with the aim of acquiring independence to India with Japanese aid, in 1942. INA majorly constituted Indian prisoners of war, held by Japan. Formed and led by Subhash Chandra Bose, INA managed to shake the English. However, the agitation bought about by the INA couldn’t last for long. The British government made serious efforts to abandon this force and several top guns of INA were scrutinized by the British government on the charges of disobedience, revolt and sedition, etc. INA trials are widely known as Red Fort Trials, because the first court martial, was done in the Red Fort in Delhi in November 1945. All ten trials were held from November 1945 to May 1946. These trials are among the 'rarest of rare cases'. And the reason is: during the time the trials were done, there was a widespread public outrage and the Tricolour of Congress waved in the sky with the Green flag of the Muslim League. Though the charges were of treason and conspiracy, but general masses of the British India supported these brave men and saw them as national heroes. 8. Jessica Lal Murder Case:This high profile murder case occurred in the wee hours of 30th of April, 1999. A 34 year old, Delhi-based model, Jessica was shot dead just over a bottle of liquor. Jessica was working as a celebrity barmaid in a socialite party at a bar in Mehrauli, New Delhi. Approximately at 1:30 am, Manu Sharma, son of Venod Sharma, an influential leader of Congress party, approached Jessica and demanded for a bottle of liquor. Jessica sternly said no to their demand and reminded them of the rules of court of not selling liquor after 12:30 am. Arguments between Manu and Jessica continued for half an hour. During this time, Manu even offered a 1000 rupees note, which Jessica denied. Furious Manu took out his pistol and fired two shots consecutively. One shot hit the ceiling and another hit Jessica in head. This led to her instant death. After many consecutive hearings, Sharma was sentenced to life imprisonment on 20th of December, 2006. 7. The Shah Bano Case:This case often used a benchmark by the court, is one of the most controversial cases of maintenance. Shah Bano, a 62 year old woman from Indore and mother of five, was divorced by her husband in 1978. Unable to provide even the basic necessities to her children, Shah Bano knocked the doors of court. The Supreme Court of India heard her plea and passed its judgment in the favour of Shah Bano, ruling that she should be given maintenance money every month. The SC called forth Section 125 of Code of Criminal Procedure, which appertains to all irrespective of caste, creed or religion. However, this judgment bought about a huge public dismal. The Muslim community opposed this decision, as it contradicted with the Muslim Sharia laws. In haste, the Congress government passed Muslim Women Act, 1986; which impoverished the Supreme Court's decision and denied any kind of maintenance money or alimony to any Muslim woman after divorce. Sad but true! Bano lost to dirty politics. 6. Land Acquisition in Uttar Pradesh:Another case related to ugly politics. Uttar Pradesh government played dirty politics to bring about development in just 'one section of society'. The government of U.P. secured agricultural lands from poor farmers of many villages of Greater Noida at cheap prices and showed them fake dreams of developing industrial area in which the farmers and their family members would work. However, this never happened. The purpose was 'swapped' and the land was passed to builders for building residential apartments. The Supreme Court in its several judgments made it clear that this was 'shear fraud' with the villagers. Land acquired for one purpose cannot be used for another purpose. U.P. government was ordered to increase compensation of the acquired land. 5. Ayodhya Case:This is one case that has strong political, historical and religious roots. Main issue revolves around a piece of land in Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Rama. On 6th December, 1992, some violent Hindu activists demolished Babri Mosque which is thought to be located at the same place where Lord Rama was born and where a Ram Temple already existed. The act of destroying Mosque led to violent riots. Consequently, a case related to the entitlement of land was lodged in Allahabad court. The case got more and more controversial with time and the judgment came after 18 years. The judgment was totally unexpected and took care of religious sentiments of both communities. The court ruled that the 2.77 acres of land in Ayodhya be split up into 3 parts. One third of the land was registered to Hindu Mahasabha to build Ram temple, another one third to Sunni Waqf Board and the remaining one third be passed to Nirmohi Akhara (Hindu religious group). 4. Satyam Scam:Scams in the corporate world are like a daily humdrum in this era. However, scam as malicious as Satyam scam is one of its kinds in a millennium. Every Indian shareholder and investor experienced a massive setback when Satyam's fraud got unmasked. A leading IT company, Satyam Computer Services shattered every shareholder's belief and serenity. On 7th January, 2009, Satyam's chairman Ramalinga Raju resigned from his post, confessing that he manipulated accounts and cheated with the investors by falsifying Satyam's accounts by US $1.47 Billion (approx. INR 14000 crores). Later, Tech Mahindra took over Satyam, revived it successfully and turned it into 'Mahindra Satyam'. 25th June, 2013 was the day when the two companies merged. 3. K.M. Nanavati versus Bombay High Court, 1959:This is merely a murder case and is also not among the 'rarest of rare' cases. Then why is it being included in this list of top 10 cases of India? Well, the reason is that this case has a huge historical significance. It was after this case that jury system of passing the verdict was abolished by the government. Nanavati, a naval commander was convicted for murder of his wife's lover, Prem Ahuja. The case being high profile gathered a huge media and public attention. To everybody's surprise, Nanavati received public and media support. After a few hearings in the court led by jury, Nanavati was freed and the jury found him 'not guilty.' He won the case by 8-1. Bombay High Court interfered in the decision and retried Nanavati in a bench trial. He was declared guilty for murder of Prem Ahuja and sentenced to life imprisonment. This case highlighted the fact that jury trials are often affected by societal beliefs and norms. Therefore, jury trials are no more in effect. 2. Lal Bihari Identity Case:This case highlighted corruption in the government offices of India, especially in Uttar Pradesh. Lal Bihari, a young farmer, was dead according to the government records. He came to know about his death when he approached a bank for loan approval. Furious Lal Bihari felt so helpless but he gathered all his strength to fight for his identity. He went to the court, added word 'mritak' to his name, abducted his cousin who illegally snatched his property, tried to enter parliament, appealed for granting widow's pension to his wife, amassed nearly all people who were deceased according to government officials. His efforts did not turn out be vain. After 18 years of struggle, he was finally declared alive by the district magistrate of Azamgarh. Lal Bihari did not only get his identity back but he also won his land and property through his consistent efforts. 1. 2G Spectrum Case:This scandal was placed at number 2 in Time magazine's list of 'Top 10 Abuses of Power'. The protectors of law themselves broke all the laws and gave an example of high level of corruption in India. This scandal got a worldwide attention. The government officials and some politicians illegally distributed Frequency Allocation Licences to mobile phone companies. These licences were being provided to create 2G consent for mobile phones. Though government claimed that the licences were granted on 'first come first serve basis' and that 'zero loss' was caused during the distribution process, yet CBI filed a charge sheet in April, 2011 mentioning that these fraud deals clinched the loss of INR 309845.5 Million. All the guesses of loss or profit were put to halt when the Supreme Court passed judgment on 2nd February, 2012. The SC affirmed that the allotment of licences of spectrum was 'unconstitutional and arbitrary'. The SC also nullified 122 licences distributed in 2008. A. Raja was the minister of communication and I.T. at that time and he is the prime accused in this scandal. The post Top 10 Famous Court Cases In India appeared first on TopYaps. |

6 Ways To Live A Healthy Lifestyle Posted: 08 Oct 2013 02:16 AM PDT Most of the modern day illnesses and chronic diseases are related to the maladaptive lifestyle followed by today's generation. Making tiny changes here and there and adapting a healthy lifestyle can not only increase the quantity of life, in addition it will enhance the quality of life to a great extent. If you try to do a lot in a short time, you will be overwhelmed by the huge task in front of you and may end up giving up even before you begin. Begin with the least tough task on hand; the positive result of which can boost your confidence. Considering the faulty lifestyle followed by people, especially of the city dwellers, the list of corrective measures would be limitless, but here is the list of 6 ways that can have a great impact on our health. 6. Get adequate sleep:Partying late in the night, watching television, internet surfing and many other modern lifestyles have invaded our sleep time in a great way. Inadequate sleep is causing weight gain, stress and reduction in cognitive processing, besides being cause of many major chronic illnesses. One of the negative effects of not getting enough sleep is the increase in levels of the hormone cortisol, which interferes with the glucose metabolisms taking place in our body. This directly causes weight gain. Before embarking on fad medicines and diets, you need to get at least 8 hours of sleep every day to lose weight. Keep in mind that not just the quantity but the quality of sleep is also important for keeping you fit and healthy. 5. Adopt the glass in half full attitude:Stress and anxiety is not caused more by the way we look at the problem than the problem itself. People consider problems to be stepping stones, eye openers or cause of worry and stress due to their outlook towards facing it. Adopting a healthy and positive attitude towards life increases the body's immunity against diseases, which in turn can improve your overall health. It also helps to keep stress away, which is the main cause of psychosomatic disorders. Negative thoughts can have direct effect on the performance of an individual leading to failure and adding to stress; thus creating a vicious circle. 4. Give boost to your relationships:Man is a social animal; being with family and friends is one of the basic needs of humans. Spending quality time with family and friends empowers people emotionally and helps them to deal with problems of life with more confidence. Involving loved ones in the agenda of making lifestyle changes is a good strategy, as there will be less people to lead you astray. Personal relationships with people who follow unhealthy lifestyles can always be a deterrent to your plan. Having friends and family involved in new activities makes the goings-on more interesting and filled with fun and laughter. 3. Avoid unnecessary stress:Procrastination is the best friend of anxiety, stress and panic attacks. Be organized, plan your activities and manage time to avoid stress causing deadlines in your life. Stress when grows in proportion can lead to sleep deprivation, eating disorders and other illnesses which can cause more stress. Some people are known to overeat when they are under stress. Identify the cause of stress and tackle it head on powerfully. Popping pills, smoking or drinking is not a right answer to handling stress effectively. In fact add kicking bad those bad habits to the change you are about to make. Meditation, deep breathing exercises and yoga are known to be great stress busters. 2. Eat smart:Watch out what you eat, how much you eat and when you eat. Everything counts as a healthy eating habit. Treat the processed food, sugar, soda, over the counter medicines, oily food and fast food as your enemies; on the other hand you can treat green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, fish, and whole grains as your friends. Drink plenty of water and juices. Do not skip breakfast or any important meal of the day, because eating on time will not only help weight management, but reduces stress, improves mental functioning and prevents craving for those unhealthy snacks throughout the day. Eat your supper as early as possible. 1. Sweat it out:Do whatever it takes to break sweat and give your cardiac muscles a good workout. Walking, cycling, swimming, aerobics or playing sports are all good exercises which can improve your health when pursued consistently. Joining a workout program at gym will provide enough motivation to be there on time and stick to a regime. Sedentary life style is high contributor to chronic illness among people. 7 Ways To Become A Funny Person Posted: 08 Oct 2013 01:50 AM PDT A funny person is not the one who makes fun of everyone, though many people believe it. The funny person is the one who drives away boredom even in the gloomiest of situations. Though being a funny person is an innate characteristic of a person, nothing can stop you from being a funny person if you plan to be one; though, know that you may need some help to change. Spread smiles around you, because smile can be a great stress buster and ice breaker. It is tiny curve that can set things straight. Here are 7 tips that would help you be the attraction of the group and funny person whose company is desired by everyone. 7. Learn to enjoy yourself:Learn to have fun and enjoy to the fullest yourself before being a funny person who can make others laugh. Once you are having fun, people around you will open up and join the laughter. Smile and laughter is infectious and can spread quickly among people. You can never tell a joke convincingly if you had not cracked up yourself at it earlier. Being cheerful and fun loving person is the first step you can take towards becoming a funny person yourself. 6. Do not choose wrong topics for fun:Do not make other people or their beliefs the scapegoats of your jokes just for the amusement of others. Though it may work out occasionally with some people, most of the time people will despise your behavior. You have to understand the sensitivity of people before making fun of anything as it may trigger someone's wrath. If you are in a group of people who are stern followers of a religion, than you must avoid making fun of that religion, because it may hurt their sentiments. You are welcome to make jokes and create amusement at your own expense though, but keep in mind not to go overboard and lose your dignity. 5. Keep worry and stress away:If something that happened in the morning has been bothering you and causing you to worry about it, then there is no way you can add fun to the party you are going to join in the evening. Keep stress and worries away from you when you are planning to have fun. You cannot fake out that you are relaxed and happy unless you feel it genuinely. People catch up with your body language more quickly than your words. Resolve issues and keep stress away. Being stress free and relaxed will take you closer towards your goal. 4. Do things confidently:Being nervous and clumsy can have people making fun you, but it can never make you a funny person. You have to carry yourself with pride and be confident of what you are saying or doing to catch attention of people around you. Do not try to smile, but let smile be a part of you when you are in a social group. Believe and trust your own potential to be a funny person. Do not worry how people will react to the joke you say, or something you do, because it will stop you in your tracks. Be prepared to make mistakes and learn from them. 3. Do not always look before you leap:Watching yourself and taking precautions about everything you do will keep you safe, but it will never allow you to be a funny person. Being spontaneous and taking chances is one way to be a funny person. Though dropping your guard may be scary at first, you will soon find how relaxing it is to let your hair down and enjoy yourself as though there is no tomorrow. You cannot analyze all your fun activities in advance; hence, if you sincerely want to be a funny person, you have to learn to take risks. The only precaution you have to take is to time the humor properly. 2. Loosen up:If you worry about what people say, how they react and comments they pass, you will never be able to let yourself free. There is no proper logic or perfectness in being funny. If you are worried about reactions of other people, then you will end up constantly thinking about what you could do wrong which will keep you bound. Forget the people around you and loosen up to have fun. Though you may stumble a few times initially, you will soon be racing towards your goal at full speed. 1. Communicate with your body language:Being funny is not just telling jokes or talking in a funny way. A funny person should be able to express oneself with proper body language. Move freely with confidence, with a spring in your step. Do not fold your hands in front or back, nor sit with your knees glued to each other. It will make you appear nervous and unapproachable person and definitely not funny. Maintain right pace and tone in a conversation and avoid awkward silence in between sentences. Adapt a more open and positive body language which will make you more approachable and loving. The post 7 Ways To Become A Funny Person appeared first on TopYaps. |
Posted: 08 Oct 2013 01:23 AM PDT Music is a great motivator. A fast paced loud song can pump you up in any situation. This makes music a very good partner in the gym. Some songs just pump you up with a fast tempo and heavy guitar riffs while other songs can inspire you to go that extra mile with motivating lyrics. For some reason hip hop and metal works best when it comes to workout songs. The rhythm of these songs also helps you match your workout to the rhythm and makes it easier to do more reps than you are used to. 10. Break Stuff, Limp Bizkit:Limp Bizkit has many heavy songs that can pump you up for a workout but there’s nothing better than Break Stuff. The song is aggressive and the lyrics are full of frustration and angst. It helps you get into that mood where you are ready to take on anything or anybody. Listen to this song before your workout and it will pump you up for a lot of heavy lifting. 9. Memory Remains, Metallica:Metallica have been both loved and hated by metal fans. Some of their songs are melodic and gained commercial popularity while others are more “metallic”. Memory Remains is one of their most popular songs and it is a great song to workout to. Hetfield’s vocals and Hammett’s guitars will definitely pump you up. 8. Bullets, Creed:Creed is one of my favorite bands ever. Their songs can be very melodic yet very heavy at the same time. Bullets is one of the heaviest songs that doesn’t turn into noise. The starting of the song builds up slowly and as you listen to it you’ll feel your own motivation building up inside you. 7. Iron Man, Black Sabbath:The fathers of metal have outlasted many other metal bands and their latest album has shown that they still are the best when it comes to heavy rock. Iron Man is one of their first greatest songs and it is a great workout songs. It starts off slowly and builds up towards the end. The drums and guitars at the end will help you stay motivated during your workout. 6. Did My Time, Korn:Korn is a great band to listen to while working out and Did My Time is one of their best songs. It is very loud and heavy and the riffs are catchy and inspiring but the vocals are the secret weapon of this song. As you listen to the song you’ll find yourself getting a boost in your energy so that you can continue working out. 5. One Step Closer, Linkin Park:Linkin Park have evolved a lot from their nu metal beginning. Even if you don’t like their recent albums, the first few albums are very heavy and great for putting in your workout playlist. They are one band that will give you the most number of workout songs as all of their initial stuff is great for pumping up. One Step Closer is just one of their great songs including, Breaking the Habit, Faint, Papercut, Crawling; the list is just too long. 4. Cryin Like a Bitch, Godsmack:Godsmack have become my favorite metal bands of recent times. All their albums are great and The Oracle is the best album ever. Cryin Like a Bitch, is the first song of this album and it is made for working out. Larkin’s drums feel as if someone is practicing on a punching bag. There’s a UFC video that goes very well with the song and is a great motivation for working out. 3. Back in Black, AC/DC:Back in Black is very good song to pump up to. AC/DC are heavy and loud without being noisy. The lyrics of this song will also help you to motivate yourself to go back to the gym and work out. It is a good song to listen to if you’ve been missing gym for a few days. 2. Eye of the Tiger, Survivor:Eye of the Tiger by Survivor is the only non metal, non hip hop song in this list and it makes this list because of Rocky. The song has become an anthem and whenever you listen to it you can see Sylvester Stallone running around in his grey tracksuit. The song has become iconic and manages to pump you up every time you listen to it. 1. Lose Yourself, Eminem:There are many great hip hop songs that will motivate you and pump you up but there is no better motivational song than Lose Yourself. It is probably the best song ever written by Eminem. The lyrics are amazing and you should listen to it not only before working out but whenever you feel down in life. It will motivate you and prepare you for anything. You should always remember the line that the song ends with, “you can do anything you set your mind to, man”.
