7 Tips To Live Your Life In The Fast Lane Posted: 18 Nov 2013 03:32 AM PST Life today is more similar to a whirlwind, with an assortment of stress and predicaments enveloping us in profusion. Yet, this should not put you down or tow you back from enjoying the genuine flavors of life. All you need is to step back for a while and scrutinize the world from far, prepare long term goals and thump the track with fresh vigor. Living life in the fast lane requires you to be up on your toes each second, meeting life's challenges with audacity. Although, most among us are not born with these attributes, changing our outlook may help in riding the fastest Ferrari without crumpling. 7. Be Tech Savvy:Those who advocate speed as a peril for society, belong to that orthodox bastion, which promotes subjugation and slavery to circumstances. It's ironic since speed has traditionally been identified with accomplishing mastery over your innate fears. The best way to realize productive madness in life is through adopting a tech savvy temperament. Love for gadgets doesn't come naturally to most, but developing a liking for them can help you cope with the speed of everything taking place around. 6. Work outs:Refusing to acknowledge an up-to-the-minute type life is retrogressive and revoltingly demeaning to the human race. But, in the wake of the all the technological developments that save us time, we must not forget our own health. Sitting idle without any physical activity can leave us limp. Physical work outs not only help in keeping us physically fit, but also keep us happier and more efficient. 5. Embark On Adventure Sports:There is a school of thought that questions the astuteness in zooming day and night. Yes, in the fast paced world, we all need to bend to our surroundings, but this is leading us to stay fixed at one place whether in office or at home, making our routine monotonous. This may introduce some lethargy and bring down performance levels. Under such circumstances, it is a good idea to take up adventure sports such as bungee jumping and water rafting to thrust in the much required quota of adrenaline in the body. And mind it; exhilaration doesn't come at voluminous cost. 4. Learn To Live Away From Worries:A fast paced life in itself is based on the perception of speculation, which is a risky trade. Switching to a life that is devoid of worries is not the easiest of jobs, especially when life is moving at a neck breaking pace. The sooner you learn to live with worries and in fact let them go, the better it is for your health and for the happiness of people around you. 3. Love for Speed:Revving up speed is in fact the only way to counter problems presented in today's tech savvy world. But how to get your wheels run fast? It doesn't necessitate much, but loving everything that radiate passion for speed. Driving fast cars, playing video games, jelling with rappers and vibrant night life can smoke in the mojjo back even in a soul as dead as a dodo. But, you mustn't let your life get out of control. Speed can be exciting and fatal, both at the once. 2. Work with Likeminded People:What helps meet your expectations from a fast paced life is adapting a culture that calls for living life on the boldest terms. Unless you are sharing space and rubbing shoulders with the likeminded people, the likelihood of David defeating Goliath remains dim and subsided. It's imperative you share the company of people who love flirting with dangers and hate stagnation. A fast paced life is means the missing of a rigid structure and hence more alluring for people. 1. Taking Risks:It's all about having a hunger, and unquenched thirst, and an unappeasable longing to stand out even through the trickiest situations that keep you ahead of others. Taking risks head on provides the much needed stimulus and competitiveness required to excel. You might to have to imbibe revolutionary ways to tame the challenges but that's how one survives. It's the constant sense of exigency that can catalyze your transition from being a back seater to a driver. The post 7 Tips To Live Your Life In The Fast Lane appeared first on TopYaps. |
7 Warnings That Were Foolishly Ignored Posted: 18 Nov 2013 01:56 AM PST When it comes to heading to warning signs, us humans haven’t done very well. In fact we are used to ignoring warning signs till it’s too late. Maybe we are too optimistic or just too lazy and short sighted to see our own mistakes. Whatever it is, we could do well to be a little more open to such warning signs. Let these historical mistakes that led to great disasters be a lesson to us. Here are 7 warning signs that we ignored and then faced disastrous consequences. 7. The Great Depression:The Wall Street Crash of 1929 that led to the Great Depression was predicted by economist Roger Babson for many years before it happened. He kept warning everybody and everybody kept ignoring him. Till the crash finally happened and then Roger Babson had the chance to say, “I told you so” but I don’t think that he did. More than $5 billion evaporated and disappeared from the market leading to a decade of hardships for the whole nation. 6. Glacier 511 Avalanche:In 1970 the world’s deadliest avalanche occurred in Peru when Glacier 511 came down into the valley after an earthquake and buried 25,000 people alive. The sad thing is that in 1962, two students, David Bernays and Charles Sawyer, had warned the people of the valley below that the glacier was highly unstable. They were thrown in jail for two weeks for causing panic. They were released when they recanted their statements. 5. The Financial Crash of 2008:The financial crash of 2008 that is still causing problems throughout the world had been expected for a long time. You might feel angry at this if you lost your job due to the recession but the sad thing is that many different people had been warning of a crash for many years but they had been ignored by governments, businessmen and bankers all around the world. Another sad thing is that the crash of 2008 was a man made disaster that caused so much damage just because the insatiable greed of a few men in power. Want to hear another sad thing? These men are still in power and still running things. 4. Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan:The 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused a lot of damage and still the Fukushima nuclear plant is in the danger of collapsing and leaking radioactive material into the ocean. Japan is prone to earthquakes but Koji Minoura, had warned of a exceptionally devastating earthquake that hits the Fukushima area about every 1000 years. He published his warnings in his study and in many magazines but it was ignored completely and nothing was done to protect the area and especially the nuclear power plant. 3. The Haiti Earthquake:The 2010 Haiti earthquake caused a lot of devastation in the country. Thousands were killed and whole villages were annihilated. A lot of people are still homeless and suffering because of the destruction caused by the earthquake. Since 1998 Claude Prepetit had been warning about an impending earthquake and asking the authorities to make arrangements to ensure people’s safety. But nothing was done and his warnings were totally ignored. If the buildings had been made safer and stronger, the destruction could have been much less. 2. 9/11:The September 11 attacks of 2001 were not a surprise attack. The intelligence agencies had known about the impending attacks for over a year. They had tried to warn the government and the Pentagon officials but nothing was done. They chose to believe that the intelligence reports of their own CIA were not correct and that Saddam Hussein had cooked it up to take attention away from himself. The issue was raised many times but was rejected even on August 6th and just 5 days later the attacked happened. 1. World War II:World War II had many warning signs. After the surrender of Germany at the end of World War I, economic fines were imposed on them that would take many generations to pay. British economist John Maynard warned that this desire to take vengeance by sending Germany into poverty for such a long time would only result in revolt and revolution. His warnings were ignored even though he tried desperately to get his point through to the politicians. But nothing was done and everything happened just as Maynard had predicted. The German economy crashed and lead to the rise of extremist Nazi government led by Adolf Hitler. The rest, as they say, is history. 7 famous disagreements in science Posted: 17 Nov 2013 10:52 PM PST Science is basically based on fact and observations. There is disagreement in science because a fact or observation of one scientist is often challenged by another scientist. Different scientists can form different theories around the same unknown fact, which may lead to disagreements. Disagreements in science are actually fruitful, since a disagreement encourages discussions and further testing of a theory until it is proven, leaving absolutely no room for disagreement. There have been numerous disagreements in science over time. We have listed below the 10 most famous disagreements in science ever. 7. PhlogistonJoachim Becher in the mid-17th century believed that fire-like element called phlogiston existed in combustible objects and was released from them during combustion. Experiments carried out in the mid-18th Century concluded that the theory was false. It was mainly concluded from the fact that when metals were burned, they gained weight instead of losing it, which should have been an ideal case with phlogiston. 6. Stress theory of ulcers:In the 20th century, doctors believed peptic ulcers to be an outcome of stressful lifestyle. The general theory of accepting stress as the perpetrator of peptic ulcers became so common that doctors began advising patients to take antacids; people in turn began to alter their lifestyles to make it less stressing. In the 1980s Barry Marshal – An Australian clinical researcher discovered bacterium H. pylori, which he said actually caused peptic ulcers. Marshal won a Noble Prize for his scientific discovery in 2005. 5. The existence of a planet beyond Mercury – Vulcan:Mathematician Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier claimed that there existed a planet between Mercury and Sun. He proposed the existence because this guy was unable to explain the peculiarity of Mercury's orbit. Le Verrier argued that the peculiarity of Mercury's orbit was caused by existence of some object. It should be a planet, he thought. The scientific theory was acclaimed by many amateur and seasoned scientists of the time. Everyone has got some followers, right? When Le Verrier died in 1877, he was hailed as a scientist who had discovered a new planet. All was well until the year 1915 when Einstein debunked the claim of a planet once and for all by explaining the strangeness of Mercury's orbit with his theory of relativity. 4. Canals on Mars:Scientist Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli believed that there existed canals and network of gullies on Mars. The concept of Martian canals had become a phenomenon so widely accepted that scientist of the likes of Percival Lowell came up with theories that these canals were part of an irrigation system built by some intelligent species. Very imaginative! All these theories were disagreed to when the first unmanned spacecraft to Mars took pictures of the red planet's surface. Pictures revealed that canal-shaped structures on the surface were optical illusions of steaks of dust blown on the surface by heavy winds. 3. The every growing earth:Majority of scientists, till the late 20th century believed in a theory that the earth was increasing in volume all the time. Weird, no? Put forward as expanding Earth hypothesis, the theory propagated that our planet was gradually growing larger – creating more distance between continents and increasing the earth's crust leading to creation of new mountains. The theory hasn’t been disagreed to the fullest but has been replaced with a more sophisticated hypothesis of plate tectonics. 2. Geocentric universe: heavenly bodies orbit the earth:Ever since 600 B.C, most Greek Philosophers believed that the earth was the center of the universe. They proposed that the Sun, Moon and all the other celestial bodies orbited the earth, but the theory was found false after De revolutionibus orbium coelestium was published by a very intelligent guy Nicholas Copernicus in 1543. 1. Theory of static universe:It was long believed and even eminent scientists like Albert Einstein professed that the universe was static. The universe is neither expanding nor contracting, they said. Everyone was in the favor of the theory until Hubble found that the objects in the universe were moving quickly away from us. Recently in 1999, scientists made a revelation by finding that not only was the universe expanding, but the expansion-rate was just increasing with each passing moment.

6 Cricketing Careers Destroyed By Sports Injuries Posted: 17 Nov 2013 10:34 PM PST Sports and injuries cannot be seen separately. Latter comes attached to the former, with only difference that for some players injuries are less sever and for some, it becomes career threatening. When an athlete or sportsperson gets paid millions of dollars, he becomes immune to almost everything except injuries. Injuries make it just more painful. Besides visits to the rehabilitation centers and the excruciating pain, these athletes also lose out on millions of dollars and fanfare. Cricket has been no alien to injuries; cricketers over the years have experienced some life threatening injuries on field. There is no surprise that many unfortunate cricketers have even succumbed to their injuries on the field and lost their lives. That is a different case however. Here, for you information, we have compiled a list of 7 cricketers whose career ended with sports injuries on the field. 6. David Lawrence:David Lawrence better known as Syd was English cricketer who represented the country in 5 test matches and a lone ODI. The powerfully built bowler had his career cut short by an injury to the knee. Syd shattered his knee cap in a delivery stride while balling for England in a test match against New Zealand in Wellington, 1992. Lawrence suffered the injury just when he had established himself in the England test squad. The knee was so badly fractured that Lawrence could never return to international cricket again. Though, he did have a negligible stint in the first-class cricket. 5. Nari Contractor:Nariman Jamshedji “Nari” Contractor is former Indian cricketer whose career came to an abrupt end after injury. Contractor in a Test match against West Indies in 1962 was hit on the back of his skull by a bouncer from Windies bowler Charlie Griffith. Contractor was unconscious for the next six days right from the moment he was hit in the head by the ball. Contractor in his recovery required blood transfusion. West Indies captain Frank Worrell was the first generous donator of blood for him. Post the injury, Contractor could never play cricket again, though the lefthander says his biggest regret is that he wanted to play a test match after injury but his kith and kin didn't want him to. 4. Andrew Flintoff:Described as the ultimate impact cricketer by England captain Andrew Strauss, former English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was forced to announce his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2010 due to a long standing knee injury. Flintoff, who retired at the age of 32, played 79 Test matches for England – a long career that was marred by recurring injuries to his knees and ankles. Flintoff's highest point in cricket was marked in 2005, when he inspired the England cricket team to win the Ashes, beating rivals Australia first time in 18 long years. 3. Saba Karim :Saba Karim is former Indian batsman wicket-keeper. The talented cricketer who began his international career in 1996 as a replacement for then wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia, didn't have a very long career. His career was cut short by an injury. Saba was hurt in the eye with a delivery from Anil Kumble, an injury that ended his cricketing career. Before forcefully retiring, Saba appeared in 34 One Day Internationals and a test match for India. 2. Shane Bond:One international bowler that had the making of a Hadlee was Shane Bond, a fellow New Zealander. But unfortunately Bond had a cricketing career which comprised of more missed-games than games-played, all because of sports injuries. The fast and fearsome Shane bond will be remembered equally for his wonderful balling talent and misfortunes with injuries. 1. Mark Boucher:South African wicket keeper batsman Mark Boucher was probably the best wicket keeper batsman of our time (yes, this is debatable considering Adam Gilchrist). Given his successful career, Boucher definitely deserved a better farewell from the game, but that wasn't to happen. In an exhibition tour against English club teams, in a match against Somerset, keeping Boucher was hit in the eye with a ball which ricocheted of the stumps. The injury was so gruesome that Boucher couldn’t return to the field again. Boucher had to hang his boots and call his retirement from the game after the unfortunate injury.
