10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 04:12 AM PST

Science fiction writers have always been great visionaries. A lot of the technologies we take for granted today, were dreamed up by science fiction writers before anyone else. There are many devices and technologies today that in a way show that we are already living in a sci-fi world. Let’s look at some such inventions that were born through science fiction.

10. The Atomic Bomb:

H.G. Wells wrote about an atomic bomb in 1914, 30 years before the first tests. In his book, “The World Set Free” he discuses the possibility of an atomic bomb. He had basic knowledge of particle physics and he understood that it could be used to create a weapon. He even predicted that the area where an atomic bomb had exploded would be inhospitable for many years.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

9. The Internet:

Mark Twain of all people described the concept of an internet in his sci-fi story, “From the ‘London Times’ of 1904″. In this story he described a telephone network called, ‘telectroscope’ which allowed the world to connect audibly and discuss the daily events of everyday. It is impressive because he wrote the story in 1898.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

8. Radar:

Hugo Gernback wrote “Ralph 124C 41+” in 1911 in which he described many technologies that we use today. He described, solar panels, remote control television, tape recorders and the radar. It is incredible in how detail he described how a radar would work using pulsating waves in the ether. He even had a drawing of a radar that looks eerily like the one used by ships today.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

7. iPad:

In 1968, Arthur C. Clark wrote “2001: A Space Odyssey” in which he described a device called the ‘newspad’ which could deliver ‘electronic papers’ right on the handheld device. Not only was the idea of a tablet not known yet, online newspapers hadn’t even been formed.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

6. Flip Phones and Bluetooth:

Flip phones hadn’t been invented in 1966, mobile phones hadn’t been invented either but in Star Trek the crew had a communicator that they could use to communicate with the ship. It even had signal problems as often as mobile phones did early on. It is amazing that they came up with the flip design when the first mobile phones were based on the brick design. They even had Bluetooth headsets that were used to communicate.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

5. Credit Cards:

Looking Backwards is a novel by Edward Bellamy from 1888. At that time the idea of credit was limited to local customers of a small shop who happened to know the shop owner. But Bellamy came up with the idea of a credit card that could be used for shopping including the double receipt system. He even described international transactions using the credit card.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

4. Invisibility Cloak:

The invisibility cloak might be more of a fantasy genre item than a sci-fi item but it has been used by sci-fi writers as well. What’s interesting is that it is about to come true. Invisibility cloaks are being developed and they have made a lot of development in recent years. In a few years time we might have a fully functional invisibility cloak. But I don’t think they’d let us buy one and probably keep it for military use.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

3. Robots:

A staple of science fiction has been the artificial machine robot that has no soul and takes over the humans who created it. This idea was so cool that people started working on developing robots and we’ve reached great progress in recent years. It is an obvious evolution of the industrialization age where machines were made to do specific tasks. The next step had to be machines that could be told to do any number of tasks just like a human. We are not completely there yet but we are close.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

2. Mind Control:

Telepathic control of machines is possible today and is being used to help handicapped people to control machine body parts directly using their minds. A lot of research has been done in this area and there are video games that you can play with your mind. There is a wheelchair that you can drive with your mind. All types of mind control technologies are coming true. It’s just a matter of time before we can control minds of other humans.

10 Sci-fi Inventions That Have Come True

1. Virtual Reality:

Arthur C. Clark wrote about virtual reality in 1958 in his novel, “The City and the Stars” in which on an alien planet a city called Diaspar is run completely by computers and humans live for 1000 years when their essence is stored in memory for them to be reborn again. They live in a virtual reality which feels, looks, smells real, sort of like the matrix. Well we are not completely there but already great progress has been made in virtual reality games. We already have virtual worlds such as SecondLife and the technology to immerse us completely into it is developing.

6 Greatest Cowards In Indian History

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 01:20 AM PST

Indian history has always left us puzzled and bewildered, especially when it comes at filtering out cowards from the brave race. Maybe, improper and inaccurate categorization owes its 'own' history to the 'history-writers' whose credibility comes with a question mark. Despite this all, and our history being much distorted, we do have names of some who qualify as cowards. In fact, the numbers are huge, much larger than you must have first thought of. But, of the long list, here are top 6 greatest cowards in Indian History.

6. Rajaraja Chola III (Ran Away from the Battlefield):

Chola Empire was always known for its brave rulers and vast territory. Brave rulers such as Rajendra Chola, who is known for his brave battle front stories, took birth in the dynasty. But, no one could have imagined that the once powerful Chola dynasty will see a tragic end with Rajaraja Chola III who as the last in succession lost his capital to Pandya King Jatavarman Sundara after fleeing away from the battle field.

6 Greatest Cowards In Indian History

5. Ramagupta (Agreed to surrender wife to Sakas):

Ramagupta is often portrayed as a coward and impotent king from the Gupta dynasty in the history books. Ramagupta and Chandragupta were brothers in relation and were besieged at fort of Alipura by the Saka enemy. Research done by historians such as A S Altekar and KP Jayaswal, suggests that Ramagupta had once agreed to surrender his wife to the enemy. Later, Ramagupta received death at the hands of Chandragupta.

6 Greatest Cowards In Indian History

4. Afzal Khan (Strategized to backstab Shivaji):

Afzal Khan was a medieval Indian commander loyal to Adil Shahi dynasty of Bijapur. He was known to be a cunning military general who didn't mind trying every trick in the trade to kill his rivals. But, he ultimately lost his life after getting trapped in his own wisely strategized sly plan. He invited Shivaji to his tent in Pratapgad on pretext of some meeting. The rules of the meeting asked both to be unarmed. But, Shivaji was aware about the wicked plans of Afzal and wore a metal armor underneath his clothes. As per customs, both embraced each other Afzal, gripped Shivaji's neck in his left arm, with an aim of suffocating him to death. But, Shivaji being a wise military strategist himself killed his enemy in quick combat and ran away from the tent.

6 Greatest Cowards In Indian History

3. Jaichand (Embracing Ghori to defeat Prithviraj):

The next in the list is Jaichand, who joined hands with Ghori to ensure Prithviraj Chauhan's defeat. Despite sharing the same maternal ancestry, Jaichand could stand to Prithviraj. However, this enmity began Prithviraj Chauhan kidnapped Jaichand's daughter. Jaichand was denied the throne of Delhi after rule of Delhi handed over reigns of the state to Prithviraj. Hence, Jaichand aligned with common neighborhood enemies and Mughal invaders, even deceiving Prithviraj's father.

6 Greatest Cowards In Indian History

2. Mir Jafar (Connivance with Britishers):

Mir Jafar was an ambitious leader working under the Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah. In 1757, he signed an agreement with the British India Company where he agreed to hand them over the army of the princely state of Bengal to them in return for control over a new puppet state. Britishers agreed with Mir Jafar as its Nawab. Later, when he realized that Britishers were up for more, he sided with Danish to stop them. Unable to confront them face on, he again took refuge under their rule. He was named as a disgrace to the nation and humanity by great Urdu poet Allama Iqbal.

6 Greatest Cowards In Indian History

1. Dawood Ibrahim (Selling India to the Drug and Arms Mafia):

Although, projected in various sections of the media as a true patriot despite his gangster ways, the most wanted criminal in India is another one in the breed of born cowards in Indian history. He had under his belt a large number illegitimate businesses including drug and arms trade. Dawood Ibrahim who is said to be the tallest leader in the underworld of the sub continent played a big role in 1993 Mumbai blasts. He was also named as the chief conspirator in Hyderabad blasts where many innocents lost their lives. Presently, he is residing in Karachi (Pakistan), if we go by what the Indian intelligence agencies have to say – he is arguably the biggest coward living from India.

6 Ridiculous Things Rahul Gandhi Has Said

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 12:12 AM PST

Rahul's lack of intellect has always been a subject of hot debate in the Indian political diaspora. Despite being in the thick of things and serving the Congress ranks for the past decade or such, the Congress Vice president and scion of the all powerful Gandhi family, seems too juvenile especially when addressing the common masses. His detractors label him as 'Buddhu' for all the goof-ups he is involved in, whether over the mike, or otherwise. Controversies come naturally to him, as does the lack of knowledge about the way India lives. But all is worthy for this 40 plus 'young' Gandhi in the eyes of Congress sycophants.

6. India as Computer and Congress as Default Program:

Only a software techie could have made sense of what Rahul Gandhi implied by his statement made while addressing thousands of NSUI and Congress workers. Saying if "India is a computer, Congress is its default program" implying the importance of the grand old party in India's politico sphere was hilarious to the core. Rahul baba seems to be surfing too much internet or playing non-stop video games on his desktop these days.

6 Ridiculous Things Rahul Gandhi Has Said

5. Congress is a Funny Party:

Lamenting at the state of affairs in his own party, Rahul called Congress as a "funny party." Labeling the largest political organization in the world as 'disorganized', he exclaimed vociferously (literally so) that Congress lacked proper regulation. For him, Congressmen believe in breaking their own rules, every single second. Maybe, he was speaking the truth, but such statements are better within the closed corridors of 10 Janpath.

6 Ridiculous Things Rahul Gandhi Has Said

4. We Are a Beehive:

Twitterati came abuzz as soon as Rahul came up with the 'beehive' goof-up. Addressing the CII Annual General Meeting, the grandson of Indira Gandhi, compared India and Indians to a beehive against the traditional comparison of an elephant. As always, the evaluation lacked any logic, but it seemed that for him a beehive is more powerful than an elephant and hence, India is a superpower. Rahul has always gone astray with his speeches! And, this comparison is by far the most memorable one we have in this list.

6 Ridiculous Things Rahul Gandhi Has Said

3. India is 21st century Saudi Arabia:

Drawing up a serious face, while throwing up words that you yourself can't lay bare, is an art in itself. And, if you consider his as a magic, then Rahul Baba stands the greatest of all magicians, the world has ever seen or will probably witness. His speech writer back stabbed him when he drew parallels with the rising of India in the 21st century to match that of Saudi Arabia's in 20th century. For him, India could be the driver of world economy with its huge pool of human resources (vastly untrained) as Saudi did with oil in the previous era.

6 Ridiculous Things Rahul Gandhi Has Said

2. Poverty is state of mind:

His quoting that poverty is a state of mind was a mockery of poor India. The statement was as deadly as Malcolm Marshal's bouncer hitting the naked head of batsman. In a country where inflation and poverty make up the fodder for every political discussion, here is a gentleman who considers, poverty is just about state of mind. For him, an adivasi in jungles of Jharkhand can do away with his craving for food, just thinking, he is rich and resourceful and even start leading a cool life. He did Italy's Nero with the statement here, didn't he?

6 Ridiculous Things Rahul Gandhi Has Said

1. Escape velocity:

With this statement Rahul Gandhi really put his own dirty feet into his own mouth. Using 'escape velocity' as an analogy to explain about the socio-economic roadblocks encountered by dalits in India, he only mocked at the seriousness of the issue at hand. Motivating or should we say de-motivating them to break the shackles of caste based discrimination through attainment of Jupiter's escape velocity from Earth was a puzzle in itself, which only Junior Gandhi could demystify. But, he surely deserved a Nobel for Physics for the comparison – didn't him?

6 Common Things That Kill Your Brainpower

Posted: 18 Nov 2013 11:31 PM PST

A strong memory is the product of a healthy mind and body. In order to remain mentally sharp and active, you need to be vigilant about things happening in your surroundings. This is only possible if you lead a healthy life free from unnecessary stress and eat a healthy diet. A weak brainpower that is defined as loss of concentration may reduce one's ability to learn and recall old and new events. It may also decline the problem solving ability of a person and create an imbalance between the various body systems. If you feel such symptoms appearing, here are 6 common things that may have killed your brainpower.

6. Stress:

Lives today revolve around stress, strain and struggle. All these take a heavy toll on your thinking power, rendering it weak as the time passes. A stressed out life style can cause long term memory related problems such as dementia. Medical experts, the world over, advice that everyone should constantly introduce changes in their lifestyle because long term monotony can lead to nervous breakdown and total loss of brainpower.

6 Common Things That Kill Your Brainpower

5. Smoking:

There is direct biological evidence that smoking kills brain power. Lighting up regularly makes a smoker restless and shaky with time. Cigarette consists of nicotine which enters the blood and stimulates the brain to release neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters generally influence mood and feelings in an individual. However, excessive smoking causes an imbalance in their release, which can adversely affect the retention power of the brain. Smoking dulls the senses and eventually leads to mass killing of the brain cells. This can even lead to paralysis and ultimately death.

6 Common Things That Kill Your Brainpower

4. Obesity:

Accumulation of excessive fats inside the body not only makes you appear obese, but also takes a toll on your thinking power. Obesity is known to cause dementia and also leads to premature aging of the grey matter. Grey matter is that part of the brain that is directly involved in memory, muscle control, hearing, speech and emotions. Being overweight can affects the way we think and judge things around. Research has found that the brain size of an obese person is about 3 to 4 times smaller than his slim counterparts. The reason is that in obese people blood can't get through to the brain easily and this leads to killing of the brain cells. This is why the first thing obese people should do is cut down on fats.

6 Common Things That Kill Your Brainpower

3. Alcohol Consumption:

Alcohol is known to kill brain cells and cause memory loss. Additionally, abuse of alcohol can lead to change in the shape of the brain, killing the neuron cells, and weakening the nervous system. Alcohol being a neurotoxin is poison to the brain cells and hence, moderation consumption is advisable. Although, drinking in any form beyond permissible levels is considered harmful, binge drinking is the perfect way of knocking out your brain power. Also, people who begin consuming alcohol at an early age are more in danger of losing their brain power till the time they enter their 40s.

6 Common Things That Kill Your Brainpower

2. Bacterial and Viral Infections:

People with a history of suffering from viral and bacterial infections are known to score below standard in terms of their memory count. Long term infections can destroy blood vessels, which perform the function of transporting blood to your brain. There are various kinds of herpes, which are scientifically known to produce long lasting effects on the brain. You must get yourself properly cured off bacterial or viral infection, as they reduce the potency of your brainpower if remains untreated.

6 Common Things That Kill Your Brainpower

1. Deficiency of Vitamin B12:

The brainpower of an individual also gets adversely affected due to inadequate amounts of Vitamin B12 in the body. Lack of vitamin B12 in our body leads to accumulation of certain kinds of harmful amino acids in the blood. These vitamins can destroy arteries and obstruct blood flow to the brain, resulting in loss of brainpower. Therefore, you must include food items rich in the vitamins to your daily diet.  Eggs, milk, meat and sea food are known to possess good quantities of vitamin B12. Eating them regularly is will help you good memory for a long time to come.

Posted: 18 Nov 2013 11:05 PM PST

Men ogle more at body curves in females, more than they do at their shining faces. It offers them stimulation of some divine sorts which can't be described in mere mortal words. But surprisingly, over 70 percent of males have no idea, how their fairer counterparts behave underneath the layer of clothes. The largest number of nerve endings for male bastion ends with the most prominent body parts in female bodies. Isn’t it intriguing? Of course it is! In the absence of basic understanding about female body parts, most women end up unsatisfied, miles away from a pleasurable orgasm in the bed. There is in fact a lot that men need to learn and discover when it comes at locating pleasure points in her body. Dissecting a woman's body isn’t easy, but not an unfeasible task either. Here are 5 pleasure points in her body.

5. Neck Nape:

It's challenging to play 'Don Juan' with your wife, if you are up with same old tiring tricks night after night. It's all about searching for the right points in her body to make her want you. If you like serious love-making, starting with nape of the neck is even advised by the ancient Hindu text 'Kama Sutra'. Men generally neglect the region in lure of more favorable pleasure centers in the female body. Experts encourage males to plant gentle kisses from hairline to shoulder region. A slight blowing of fine wind in her ear and gently eating up her earlobes is always welcome besides kissing!

5 Pleasure Points In Her Body

4. Back:

The body of a woman is packed with numerous pleasure points and hence, it's with time that you will exactly learn what pleases your lady the most. But, every woman expects her partner to place a gentle supportive hand on the small of her back when locking the lips. This elicits a stimulating and psychologically defined feeling of supportiveness from her partner. No doubt, it can get her heart racing akin to the fastest Ferrari you had seen on the racing track. It also adds to the fun and keeps her coming back to you every night for some more pleasure.

5 Pleasure Points In Her Body

3. Palms:

Have you ever tried to kiss the palms of your partner? If no, then you must try it out at the earliest. Exploring a pleasure point on her palm with your light lips can give delightful shivers to her body. Normally, males lose out on such areas which are comparatively more sensitive than others. Experts also advise to look into her eyes, if possible, while feeling her palms on your face. Maintaining eye contact throughout, makes her believe that you are all for her. This can drive her nuts in heightened keenness. It's all about weaving a magic around her. You must not at any moment of time appear a robot accomplishing his preset mission.

5 Pleasure Points In Her Body

2. Hair:

A light pressure finger massage in circles around her temples up to the nape region around the neck can be a good stimulator for her. Not only does it lead the blood to flow through her body more vigorously, but also sends pleasurable tingles running through her body. It's also a good idea to inhale the scent of your partner, especially if you are massaging her head from the back side. Her natural smell can spark a desire in her partner for more. There is every possibility that both of you will end on an ultra-charged sexual encounter, post arousing session of massage.

5 Pleasure Points In Her Body

1. Pelvis:

Pelvic region is the most underrate sensitive portions of her body. Arousing her emotions through stroking her belly and kissing her belly button then steadily shifting downwards can be very pleasing for your charming lady. Teasing her inner thighs and kissing down to the pubic region can easily excite her to the highest levels. You can heighten her sexual arousal by trailing constant kisses all over. If she reciprocates through lower body shivers and slight moans, you know you are on the right track. But, you mustn’t only take to the challenge only if you are able to suspend your own urges for the time. Losing out on control at the moment is easier than holding on and prolonging it for a while.
